Can you mix Dawn with bleach safely?

It is safe to mix with SOME Dawn Dishwashing soap, though I have to admit that my cleaning results were not as great and wonderful as many websites claim. Read the back of the Dawn (or other dish soap) bottle. Some varieties of Dawn say nothing about bleach -- these are OK to mix. There is at least one (blue) that specifically says "Do Not Mix With Bleach." This one is not safe.
Absolutely do not mix Dawn dish soap with bleach. There is an inadequate tiny warning on the back of the bottle that I did not see. Right now, I am airing my house out because of the fumes. I am nauseous and had to call Poison Control. They advised to drink a lot of water and sit in a steam bath.
I'm so sorry that that happened to you. I believe that the formula has been changed over the years. The original blue Dawn was probably fine to mix with bleach but today's is not!

I always use dawn dish soap. This is the year 2020 (COVID 19) and I have just purchased a brand new bottle. There is NO warning what so ever on ANY of my bottles about mixing or NOT mixing of ANY kind with ANY thing. It tells you it is not for dishwashers, eyes or consumption. NOTHING more. Front label OR Back label.
I am staring at the ingredient list on my bottle of Blue Dawn right now. No ammonia, no warning about bleach.

We just bought Dawn Ultra (blue) and I studied the label. There are no ammonia compounds listed on the label as required by law nor are there any listed on the P&G MSDS data sheet. As the formula may have changed since Jan 29, 2018 I'd suggest it might just be wise to use bleach alone without adding to anything but water.
Why would you have to mix bleach with such a great product? You are already told that Bleach and other substances cause problems... when you first had problems with it why didn't you open a window? And stop mixing it? Some things people should be responsible for....
Yes, it is safe to mix Dawn dishsoap and bleach. Growing up I can remember my grandma getting the mop water ready for me to do my chores.
Check your labels. The original Dawn formula has changed over the years and many dish soaps now contain ammonia. This causes toxic fumes when mixed with bleach. Most dish soaps carry a warning not to use with bleach.

I use a combination of water, a drop or two of Dawn, and just enough bleach to smell for kitchen counter cleaner. I keep this in a spray bottle and use it just like any other counter cleaner.
I don't know if it'll crate noxious gas... but it's definitely useless. Soap will attach to the chlorine and make it not work for sanitizing. If there's too much bleach in that solution soap molecules are gonna be all used up on chlorine molecules and you're just mopping with water
I just read that if you have a mixture of 3 parts water and one part bleach to make a gallon, and add 1 ounce of Dawn dish soap that it will keep the mixture wet and not dry out for cleaning applications outdoors, where any fumes will also not be harmful.
I have very hard water I use Dawn the blue with the duck on the front and clorox bleach in my dish water everytime never had any issues and it keeps my dishes bright and stain free
Editor's Note Some Dawn dish soap formulas contain ammonia or other additives that may interact with bleach, and others do not. Be sure to read your specific product's bottle to ensure you don't create any toxic gases. There should be a warning label clearly marked.
I mix bleach.and Dawn to clean my sinks daily. I have yet to see or smell any reaction.
what kind of dawn ...I sprayed a Clorox solution on my stove and my nose started burning ...the stove had been washed with dawn a couple of days before...I wish I knew what is in the dawn that does this
It's usually ammonia. If you look at your bottle of Dawn, it should have a warning not to mix with bleach if it is one of the dish soaps that contain ammonia.
You cannot mix bleach and Dawn even if there is no warning! Dawn has alcohol products in it and this makes chloroform when mixed with bleach, it also has "amines" in it, this is altered Ammonia, and this can make mustard gas.
Granted these are in small ammounts and often diluted when mixed with water, but it is not a good plan at all.
