Mustard Green Soup with Chicken in a bowl.This is a healthy and delicious staple soup in our household and I wanted to share it with you all.

Cook Time: 15

Total Time: 35

Ingredients:

Steps:

  1. Prep your ingredients. Wash mustard green and cut into 3" in pieces or your desire. Slice onions. Slice chicken breast to your desire.
  2. Boil water in a pot, throw your onions in and sliced chicken breast. Add fish sauce, dash of sugar and salt then boil for 15 minutes.
  3. Throw in your vegetables and turn off the heat. Cover for 10 more minutes with the stove off.
  4. Ready to serve. Optional: Garnish with black pepper on top of the soup.

Thanks Judy, this sounds like a good way to cook mustard greens (that do not always taste as good as other greens when cooked the traditional way).

I do not have fish sauce - wonder what I could substitute and still have the taste?

Fish Sauce is a staple in our household. It is fairly inexpensive at our local Asian market. Online says for a substitution, you could use

1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
*OR* 1 teaspoon Soy Sauce
*OR* 1 teaspoon Soy Sauce with a splash of lime juice

You can get fish sauce in any supermarket nowadays. It will be near the soy sauce. It really is made from fish so it is hard to substitute.

You could try using anchovy paste or Worcestershire sauce, which has anchovies as an ingredient.

Yes! Fish sauce is a staple in Asian cooking and could be found in the aisle along with the soy sauce. :)

Funny - I did not look on line but a friend brought fresh mustard greens from his garden and we used your recipe and substituted soy sauce and a little chicken broth. They were delicious - new "keeper" for everyone.

I still have some greens left and will make some for Sunday dinner (always a nice friendly occasion - a hold over from the "'old" days) and will try the soy sauce with lime juice next.
