Netflix Reviews?

March 31, 2004

Netflix ReviewsI have had my eye on Netflix for a while. I believe its unlimited rentals for 20 dollars a month but you can only have a few movies out at a time (unless you pay more). Is anyone out there using it and having a good or bad experience. How long does it take to get movies you want? Do you have to wait forever for new releases? Is the service good?

I have to say that I really enjoy Netflix. I have the basic membership so I get 3 movies out at a time. It has really been wonderful for me and my husband because we have 2 small children and it is hard to find a sitter so we can get out to see a movie (plus it is so expensive!). We used to go to Hollywood video and would hope to get new releases if they weren't all checked out and then it was hard to return them on time with so much to do during the week. Through Netflix we keep them as long or short as we want and then pop them in the mail when we are done. Right now it takes about 2 days for Netflix to receive the movies back in the mail and then 2 days for us to get them back. But when we used to live within the Houston city limits they would actually get the movies back in one day and return them to me in 1 day. It was fabulous! Oh, and you can time sending back a movie to insure that a new release that you want to see gets mailed to you the day it comes out. We pretty much have it down to where we get new releases without waiting for them to come available which can happen if the movie is really popular and everyone is waiting to see it. If you don't get it in the first day you may have to wait up to a week or more for a copy to become available. That is probably the only down side. We more than get our money's worth.

Hope this is helpful to you.

Netflix is great, especially if you watch a lot of movies. (It also has TV series like Star Trek: The Next Generation, British Comedies.) Fast. Easy.

We joined Netflix in October and love it. The service is unbelievably fast--about one day or two--and we can preorder as many movies as we like, but they only send up to three at a time. As soon as one movie comes back, another is sent. We find that the savings in gas and wear and tear on the car adds a lot to the savings. Also, we never make useless trips to the video store for a movie that is never in or wait in line forever. You can keep a movie as long as you like with no late fees. I'm not affiliated with Netflix at all, just a happy customer.

Yes, but it turned out to be a little overwhelming for my family. We switched to there economy version which is cheaper and you get 4 movies per month and can have 2 out at a time.

We tried it and liked it. Only we had a hard time getting 3 movies watched in a weeks time to get the most for our $20.

I have been a member of Netflix for about 2 years. Love it. But, did you know that Walmart has about the same thing but cheaper? With Walmart you can have 2 movies for $15.54. 3 movies for $18.76 or 4 movies for $21.94. Walmart has a huge selection . All you have to do is go to walmart.com and look for DVD Rentals. I also use the Walmart internet connection because it is cheaper than anyone else around here.

It is only $9.95 per month. I have used AOL and the others and I kept getting kicked off line all the time. I have used Walmart for 2 years and have never been kicked off. Just thought that I would throw that little tidbit in the ring.

Blockbuster has a plan too. I have the one that is about $30 a month. I can go in and get 3 movies at a time. No time limit on when I need to return them. If I watch all 3 of them the same day I can take them back and get 3 more. I like it because I don't have to wait for them to be mailed. You can go at the last minute if you decide you want to watch a movie. You might want to check it out if you have a Blockbuster near you.

Netflix is great, fast and economical. Their price has gone down to $17.99 per month for the three- movie plan.

My husband and I have been using Netflix for a few months. We rent movies quite often, and becuase we live in a small town, we don't have access to places like Hollywood Video, Blockbuster, or Walmart (not within a reasonable distance) so Netflix is awesome.

Netflix has plans as low as 9.95 a month, to have one movie out at a time. We were spending over 40 dollars a month before renting movies from our local movie rental place (they didn't have any plans like Netflix offers)

The service is really slow and not at all worth spending the money. I don't receive any movies for weeks. I hate it and am just going to cancel it. The DVDs never arrive on the estimated days and they keep getting misplaced. They don't send the DVDs when they say they would. It's all fake. Do not trust them. I HATE NETFLIX.

We've had really good service with Netflix. The movies arrive on time and new releases are usually quickly available. It might depend on the reliability of your mail service. I don't know where "Hate It" lives but possibly your movies are being stolen before they get to you.

I just signed up for Netflix and I really like it. My brother has been using Netflix for a few months and he loves it. They have the movies he really likes, and he has specific tastes. They arrive promptly, and Netflix has saved our family time and money!

Yes, but you can make it even more affordable. Nexflix make is easy to open and close your account (some money always beats none) I use it four months out of the year: March, June, September and December. 3, 6, 9 and 12 are easy to remember and allow enough time for new releases to build. You get to watch whatever you want for a less than $80 per year. Go Netflix!

It used to be, but now it is very frustrating. We have been Netflix members for 3 years and for the first 2 years it was great. This last year, service has gone down significantly. We used to get movies in 2-3 days, but now it often takes a week a longer. While we are paying for unlimited movies, we can't get more than about 9 per month because of Netflix delays. And it you want to give feedback to them, forget it. They have no means that I can find of providing direct feedback to them.

Does anyone know of a good service for renting and downloading movies? I'm ready to drop Netflix.

Surprised by the bad reviews. Netflix has been really great for me the last year. The turnaround is very quick and new releases have been rarely or barely delayed. It's also really easy to increase or decrease how many rentals you want, even mid-month. I am in Washington state.

I've had Netflix for almost 4 years now and I love it. I am on the 3-at-a-time plan, which is $17.99 per month. I live in Seattle and my movies never take more than two days to reach me. When I lived in D.C., same deal, very quick service. In the hundreds of titles I've gotten, there was only a problem with one of them! I like the online "Friends" features, you can see what your pals are renting! I love how they have tons of TV series available, and the new release turnover is impressive. The only thing you need to ask yourself is, how many movies will I watch? If you're not a movie buff, it's probably not worth it...but if you're like me and watch at least two, sometimes three, per week, it's for you! Highly recommended!

Ohh, I love Netflix! We are also on the 3 a month plan, which usually boils down to 1 for a movie night, 1 for the kids and one for the adults. It saves me a lot not only in rentals and late fees but also those impulse buys at the store when a new kids movie comes out. Now I can get itpretty much as soon as I know it is out, keep it until the kids are sick of it and send it back. I have never not gotten my top movie right away and have never waited more than the mailing time to get my new movie. My husband and I have been watching all the CSI episodes in order, usually two or three a night after the kids go to bed. They have pretty much any movie or TV show that has been released out on DVD. I pay $17.99 for three a month, I think you could go down to $14.99 for 2 a month but I figure it was worth the extra 3 bucks. You can now watch movies on your computer. I can't because they don't support Mac, but most people seem to really love this.

The biggest downfall is not getting them in the mail. I'm always seeing the mailtruck drive past and realizing that I didn't walk it out there yet!

As a comparison, I recently HAD to watch all the Heroes episodes in order because I wanted to know what was going on. I got the first 3 from Netflix and watched them as fast as possible. I wound up renting 2 from the video store because I was really wanting to watch them over a weekend. And, of course, I was a day late in returning those back. It wound up costing me more than my entire month of Netflix for that one weekend of rental.

Due to a very slow service I canceled my subscription with Netflix and I had two weeks left of my payment. Netflix stopped sending me anything for the rest of the time which I paid for. I wonder if that is legal or netflix is another company that has things written in small lines that we take for granted. one thing I know, I had the right to get movies in que till the end of the period I paid for. for that reason I would never consider netflix again.

We used to have Netflix, but switched to blockbuster. Blockbuster is much better. Instead of mailing the movies back you can exchange them at the store for a new movie.

I pay $9.48 a month to have one movie at a time. I always receive another DVD within 2-3 days. Service has been great. I downloaded a couple movies to my computer to watch also. It is worth it. Easy to find what you want.

Hi: I've been using it a while. I only take out 2 movies a month - they come when they are supposed to, let you know when that is and are efficient. I do not see any reason to get more than 2 per month. Library has free movies, etc.

Netflix SUCKS. I never get a new release. It's all SCAM since I been a member, I had one popular new release. The reason I sign up for it is, so I don't have to go to the video store, but instead i still go because they never send me any new release.

Netflix and Blockbuster should go out of business soon. They have pushed customers to the limit with barely available movies, old damaged discs, and throttling.

At Redbox, I can get a movie when I want one and I can get popular movies that actually play and are not cracked in half when they arrive.

I just registered on Netflix for the 10 days trial. First thing I tried was their "famous" streaming. "Instant watch" they call it.
I chose a movie form the selection of very old movies... some of them over 40 years old - I'm not kidding. And then I started to play.

In the first ten minutes the play stoped and I got this message:

"Your internet connection has slowed. We are adjusting playback to avoid further interruption."

That "adjusting playback" took approximetally 10-15 minutes.

My download speed is about 10-15Mbps. At the time of this error my speed was measured as 14467 kbps

By the 00:36:59 of the movie 02:04:07 length I had that very same error message coming up 4 times already.

I started to watch the movie around 6:00 PM my time and by the time mentioned above it was already 07:15PM. 36 minutes in more than an hour. WOW. Now thats something.

I called the tech support. They responded fast - extra point for that - but the fella had no clue why I was getting the error message and said to me to choose another movie. lol

What will I do? I will NOT keep my subscription after the trial ends and I WILL NOT recommend NETFLIX to anyone.

I'm gonna try it. If I don't like it, I can cancel it. I had the Blockbuster deal...$30 for 2 movies at a time which was great, but somebody who works there was using our account to steal stuff so we had to cancel it and could obviously not trust Blockbuster again.

My daughter gave my wife a 1 year Netflix subscription last Christmas and signed up online. It was prepaid for the year yet Netflix insisted on my wifes' credit card info...Yes, even though it was prepaid! Not thinking, this info was supplied and within a month, we had over $1,000.00 worth of fraud gaming use on our card which was then canceled. Netflix then insisted on another credit card number and we refused because we believed the fraud was through Netflix and besides, it was already prepaid. They canceled our account and refused to refund the already paid one year subscription.

No problems, great service. I have not even passed my 2 week free trial and still have watched over 10 movies! I ordered a mover on Jan. 22 and received it Jan. 23. Tell me that's not great!

I'm happy with Netflix. I have the one at a time subscription. The downfall is me being organized enough to turn the movie back in right away. If it's something I think the rest of the family might want to see, then sometimes by the time I've let kids use it, several days have past. They've been really good. When I lost a movie, and after a month or so it didn't turn up ( motivation being mainly I couldn't get another movie) when I 'fessed up to Netflix, they only charged me 20 bucks for the loss! Way cheaper than I've experienced with Blockbuster, etc in the past.

I also really like the instant internet video I can watch for free. So much so that that I've been contemplating buying the device that Netflix sells (about $100) to be able to watch them on my TV instead of my computer. BUT...I can't find any information as to whether that equipment will be useless if I discover a different source of the streaming videos. Does anyone have experience with this? Is it a "branded" item that I will lose the investment in if I decide to use a different service other than Netflix?

All in all I have enjoyed Netflix for 5 years now but the last year or so, the main issue I have is the very long waiting for newer releases. I will "save" future movies to my queue sometimes 4 months prior to them even being in the theater much less released on DVD yet it is now taking more then 2 months in some cases once a DVD is released to get to me. That never occurred until this past year. I am pleased with their shipping etc and I am on Unlimited 3 at a time and I get no less then 12-15 movies on average each month. I also agree with most about their lack of customer support and only via phone which can take 30 minutes to get thru to someone.

I see mosts of these responses are quite old. I subscribe to Netflix- it's only about $8.00 a month. I don't order movies. I watch the shows and movies available instantly online. I really love it and have no complaints. I especially like being able to read the reviews to help me decide what to watch. I recently saw and enjoyed the movies, The Substitute and Switchback. Both films held my attention throughout.
