Not Losing Weight While Dieting?

I am facing with some disturbing problem in weight managment. I only want to lose 5kg which I gained throughout my pregnancy. I used to be doing lots of daily exercises throughout my whole life (gym, jogging, walking) and was always very fit. in the last couple of yeas I have realized that the more I jog (10k per day) the more fat my body stores. Now all I am doing is walking 1.5 hours per day. I have tried every diet (even my normal eating habits can be summed with vegetables and fruits, so it is not like I eat fatty food anyway).

I am now with herbalife, and the same pattern emerges again - I would lose 1.5 kg in the first week and that is it! After 3 weeks of dieting and walking and getting no results I become very discouraged. I do not know what to do or how to solve this problem. I have no problem sticking to a diet no matter how restricted it is, but no matter what I do I can't loose weight. Is there anybody out there that can tell me what is this problem? The truth is I would stop dieting after 3 weeks each time out of discouragement and frustration.

People plateau because they don't realize that their caloric needs change as their weight changes. When you weigh more, your body is burning off more calories when you work out or are active becuase there's more weight on your body. When you loose weigh, your caloric intake to maintain your weight decreases significantly.

Peoples metabolisms change signficantly as they get older. By metabolisim, i mean the amout of calories you burn by doing nothing. For about $125 you can go have a RMR test where you blow into a tube for 20 minutes and it tells you your accurate RMR, that way you can figure EXACTLY how many calories you need to maintain your weight at your activity level, and then how many calories you should eat per day to loose weight (1 lb a week means -500 calories per day)

*example of this: my friend, avid triathalon do-er in her mid 30's used to never exercise in her 20s and wear a size 0. Her 30's hit and she went up to a 12 in two years, thats when she started exercising. She went and found out her RMR recently and it was shockingly low.

Last tip: you NEED to cheat and change up your food and exercise to be successful. Long story short, when things stay the same for too long, your body stops producing a certain chemicla that induces weight loss. But when you mix it up, it confuses the body and it produces more of that chemical, and you loose more weight.

P.S. all these links are from calorie-count.com. i am ont affiliated with them, but it's a free calorie counter, like calorieking.com, that automates the process. it's excellent and worth a shot. i NEVER thought that i could count calories and keep it up, but this works for me. Has a recipee analyzer, and it analyzes your intake every day with a pie chart and % of how much fat, protein, and carbs. great program.

Have you ever heard of weight loss plateaux? This is such a common occurance! At the start of a diet you loose weight quickly and then the weight loss can stall or "Plateaux". This is a temporary thing and if you keep on with the diet you will eventually begin to loose weight again in a couple of weeks. You can stimulate weightloss by increasing exercise and temporarily cutting more calories for 1 week after you reach a stall or plateaux.

You say that you loose motivation after a few weeks. I think you might need help keeping your motivation up and sticking to your diet and exercise plan. Why not try weight watchers or similar group who can provide support and help keep your motivation up?

I guess I've tried all methods, including the cleansing. Then in December my doctor ran a TSH, a thyroid study. Bingo! Graves Disease! So if you haven't had that checked, this would be a good time. Other than that, just eat lightly, get a little meat in that diet, and at least 1 tablespoon of fat each day. Good luck!

I don't know what the problem could be. However, when it comes to losing weight, I always recommend the Atkins diet. It's the only one that has EVER worked for me. It's basically cutting out carbs such as bread, pasta and rice, and I never eat them after 4pm.

The diet has been around since the 1970s, so you may even be able to find an old book in a used bookshop. Good luck with it!

Hi,

Since I haven't been around for quite some time I don't know if I have posted about this....

Anyway, ever since I entered the "years in between" I started putting on weight while my cravings and appetities for food (I Love to cook) ran wild and after being a skinny something all my life (I used to buy pants and skirts at the teens dept store...) I found myself with 22 pounds too many, of course all on the wrong places.... and with hardly anything to wear anymore.... LONG STORY SHORT: I found out about LEMON WATER and so I started to daily drink the juice of one lime/lemon with 1,5 liter of water - NO SUGAR!!!!! and after some three months I was down to my almost ideal weight of some 115 pounds which I don't find that hard to keep anymore.
