Oh So Easy Biscuits

My husband loves biscuits and before we were married 16 years ago, I had never baked biscuits. I experimented with many recipes and finally came up with this one that was very easy, turned out great every time and that my husband loved!

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups self-rising flour
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 1/3 cup milk (skim, 2% or whole)
  • 2/3 cup vegetable oil

Directions:

Pre-heat oven to 450 degrees F. Place flour and salt in a large stainless steel or aluminum bowl. Measure milk and oil together to equal 2 cups of liquid. Pour milk and oil all at once into flour. Mix until dough cleans itself off the side of the bowl as you stir. (If too dry, add milk one teaspoon at a time, if too moist, dust with a small amount of flour).

At this point, you can either drop by large, rounded, spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet or you can divide the dough in half and roll dough out about 1/4 inch thick and cut with cookie cutter. Do the same with second half of dough. (My hubby likes the cut ones best). Place sides touching, on ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake at 450 degrees F. for approximately 20 minutes, or until tops are golden brown.

I like this recipe because you can make these biscuits thick (they will have soft center and slice open easily) or thin (to be crunchy), depending on your mood!

Servings: 16-20 biscuits
Time:15 Minutes Preparation Time
20 Minutes Cooking Time

You can freeze biscuits after cooking them. To reheat, place frozen biscuits in cold oven. Set temperature at 450 degrees and timer for 10 minutes. (01/29/2010)

Oh So Easy Biscuits

I have been looking for a good fool proof biscuit recipe that doesn't taste like bisquick or other. I am glad you posted this one as you have already tested it, etc. It sounds really good! Thank you (01/30/2010)
