Saving on Auto Insurance for Teens
Vehicle insurance is so expensive, especially if you have teenagers! One of the things many people seem to forget is that most companies will give you a discount on your policy if your child gets good grades. This even goes for children in college that are still on your insurance. It's worth checking into!

Make Note Of Your Yearly Mileage
Write down the mileage on your vehicle on Jan. 1 of each year, then if you can count mileage on your income tax, you will have this record. Use your check register for the year to write it on and you have a permanent record. By Beverly in TN

Is It A Safe Car? Call and check before you buy.
Before you buy a car, new or used, you might benefit from a call to the toll-free Auto Safety Hotline sponsored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Be prepared to give the year, make, and model of the car. Call 800-424-9393 (or in the Washington, D.C. area, 426-0123.) By Joesgirl

Buying a Used Car
Buying a used car - don't overlook the private seller. I've bought two used cars, with 60,000 miles on them, paid $200 each time and drove them another 80,000 miles with no major repairs. They were not pretty cars, but very dependable transportation. By Betty G.

Make Your Own Car Air Freshener: Hypoallergenic Garni Bag
I am allergic to a lot, and with my pregnancy, smells drive me crazy-- even ones that make life a bit more pleasant; like air fresheners in cars, which I don't normally smell but are needed due to occasional trips with the dog. My husband filled a tightly woven bouquet garni bag with baking soda and hung it from the rearview mirror. I am not overwhelmed with smell now, and the baking soda keeps things fresh! - Alouette

Buying a New Car: Tips to Help You Not Get Burned
By Fisher Swanson

The first thing you will want is a clear understanding of what you are looking for in a car. It's best to narrow your search to a particular make and model that both fits your needs and has a good track record. If you go to a car lot for a particular car and find yourself being steered towards a completely different car don't buy it that day. Go back home and research it thoroughly.
