Preserving Workbooks for the Next Child
If your children have workbooks that you'll want them to re-do or pass on to siblings just tape the top edge of a sheet protector down to the table (we use duck tape) then lift the protector flap up and slide the workbook under, then with the sheet protector on top of the page have the youngster use a dry erase marker to do the work. This also works good for library loaned workbooks and is great for tracing pretty much anything. By Melanie

Homeschooler's Tip: Save Money on Workbook Pages
Instead of making copies of workbook pages, which often infringes on copyright laws, use a page protector. Cut off the left border (with the holes) a little smaller than the page, and slip the sleeve over the page. Use dry-erase markers for mess-free work. This also saves on paper mess and expense, and you don't have to tear the pages from the book. Any text book can be made a workbook in this way! By Elizabeth Cardell

Fun Preschool Activity -- Number Worm Puzzle
By Preschool Play
Let your child watch as you make him a new number worm puzzle. Ask him to tell you the numbers as you write them on the segments. Let him count the dots as you put them next to the numerals. When the pieces are all mixed up, it can be a challenge to many preschoolers to put the puzzle together the right way until he finally recognizes what each of the numerals look like and can say them in order. This puzzle is a wonderful teaching tool which will help your child learn math skills.

Fun Preschool Activity -- Going Left, Going Right
One of the skills children need to work on when they begin learning to read is to differentiate right from left. Playing the game, Going Left, Going Right, can help them practice that skill. The more often you remind your child which way is left and which is right, the sooner she will automatically remember. This concept is often confusing to a young child, so play this game frequently. You can also begin practicing this skill with our child at a very early age. When helping young children to put on socks, shirts, pants and jackets, always remind her with words such as "Put your left arm in first, now your right arm" and so on.

Homeschooling: What To Teach When
By Teresa Higginbotham
Addition and subtraction first grade. Multiplication-third grade. How do homeschooling parents know what to teach when? There are a couple of ways you can do this. I like to use The World Book Course of Study at http://www.worldbook.com/ptrc/html/curr.htm. This outlines year by year the objectives that are covered by schools in North America. Once you have this list of objectives you can use it to pick out text books, videos, arrange field trips, tutors, classes and find educational material. If you are going to a curriculum sale or are sitting with homeschooling catalogs in front of you, try to to see hmmm....does this textbook have a section on magnets? It doesn't? Then I might want to do this magnet unit study along with our textbook.
