Solar Window Heating Panel Plans
Here in Colorado they are talking about our ulitilies going up by 25 percent. I don't know about you but I can't afford to pay more to heat my home. I have Fibromyalsia and to get cold can knock me off my feet for days at a time. So my husband and I did a search on the internet for something that was cheap, could be made ourselves and could help out with the heating bills. Here we have a lot of days when we do have sunshine so we thought solar would be the way to go.

Save Energy - Turn Off The TV
Many times people turn on the TV and walk away to do other things without turning it back off. Most people will say that it provides needed "background noise." Try turning on the radio instead. It uses less energy, and is actually intended for background noise. By Leann D

Reading Your Own Meter
Call your utility companies and tell them you want to read your own meters. They will give you cards to write the information and you have to turn these in at a certain time of every month. If you can read your own meter, you will be certain the numbers are read correctly and you won't be overcharged. By Kathy

Save Money on Heat, Put on a Sweater
I've noticed that many people who complain about being cold automatically turn up the thermostat instead of putting on slippers, a sweater, etc. I've found I can set the thermostat a few degrees lower by simply keeping my feet and arms warm. By Leann D

Water Heater Savings
By Gary Foreman
Dear Dollar Stretcher, I recently talked to a handyman/fix-it guy who said that for most efficient use, I should set my hot water heater as hot as possible. His theory is that if you have very hot water, you only use a little of the hot water mixed with a lot of cold to take a comfortable shower vs. using lots of water heated to a comfortable temperature (as I have it set now). I don't have children, so the safety issues of keeping my temperature set lower are not as great. Which is more efficient? My water heater is almost due to die anyway. It's 10+ years old. Laura M.
