This is a picture of my great grandson in our yard this summer. He came with his brother for the day. They enjoy playing in the creek. He started watering my plants and then I guess he decided to cool the cows off.
These photos are from my friend who lives in Illinois. This lady does it all. She "runs" a nice farm, spins her own animals' fleece into yarn, bakes all her own bread in a wood stove oven and generally lives a very simple, happy life.
These two wandered onto our property this past Sunday. I was afraid they would knock over the grill, but they caused very little damage and were quite docile. A nearby neighbor provided feed, which kept them from wandering further, until the owner could pick them up.
The goat was posing for me to take photos. She was really showing off. LOL
My baby Pygmy goats are wonderful additions to the family farm. They eat all the brush, weeds and poison ivy plants. They give milk, soap, cheese, and butter; all with a funny attitude.
Here is one of my cows all dressed up for the holidays. She wants to moo you to a Merry Christmas an Prosperous New Year 2011.
Raine (Dog) And Her New Charge (Boer Billy)
This is one of our livestock guardian dogs "Raine", who was nursing a litter of puppies at the time and one of her young charges. This young boer billy was bottle fed so he really didn't know what all the fuss was over but decided he had to check out what "Mom" was offering.
Scenery: Farmland (Pennsylvania)
On Saturday we were coming back home from an Insect Fair at Penn State University. The ride home was long, but some of the views were just beautiful and this was one of them!
My dad was raised on a farm. But he has spent most of his adult life in the city. When a church friend needed someone to take care of their animal while they were away, he was the natural choice.
Scenery: Rainbow (Dutch Harbor, AK)
God's symbol of forgiveness rains down upon the "Deadliest Catch" vessels resting in the port of Dutch Harbor during an unusually calm day of Bering Sea waters.
This is the inner-country coming out in my 4 year old city-born daughter. She's riding in the bed of Gramma's 1983 pickup, helping her older cousins pick up straw bales to load in the barn.
Yesterday my husband was cutting down a couple dead trees in the yard with a chainsaw. Our chicks have never heard such a thing and were staying far away and stretching their necks to see what the noise was all about.
These are some of the 30 babies we had this summer, mostly girls and all bursting with new bounding energy.
My great nephew's first meeting with my new 17 inch filly born on the farm this week.
The weather is getting nicer and the animals are enjoying it just as much as we are. I was thinking about taking a swim do to the heat when I drove by these cows and saw they had the same idea!
Scenery: Cow and Calf in the Snow
We have had more snow this winter than usual, the new calves started being born in Jan which was really cold and snowy. When we went for a winter walk, this new born calf was on one side of the fence and his frantic mother on the other.
I have had over 10,000 board feet of oak, maple and poplar cut out of downed and fallen trees, why waste good wood. I used some of them to make furniture.
Baby Animals Are a Sign of Spring
Spring in the country wouldn't be half as much fun if it weren't for all the beautiful baby animals you see. These are right outside our front door across the road so a really wonderful sight any time of day.
Garden: Growing Peas for Winter
We have a large family and so always put in a large garden and can lots of food for winter months. We have potatoes, onions and peas and kale in so far. Hoping it stays mild and we can soon plant more.
We were at the county fair, had come out of the sheep barn and found one sheep still to be unloaded. My granddaughter Tegan could not resist answering back to the bleating voice of "help me, help me!"
This is not my pet, but sweet nonetheless! This is a 2 month old calf. I took my kids to a local historic farm and this sweet baby cow was sleeping, despite all the children clamoring the fences to get a better look!
My 2 nephews, age 1 and 4, came for a visit while on vacation. I wanted to give them something to remember their trip to our house. My parents came a few days before and we put books together. I printed off pictures of the farm animals, pets, family members, tractor and 4 wheeler (they are boys that like machines!).
