Photo: Retro Canister and Mr. Pinocchio
I've recently found my grandmother's old canister set. It is so cheerful with its bright colors and so appreciated. This set of tins is so retro and colorful. I always like to add some humor. Mr. Pinocchio reminds us always to never tell a lie.
I recently moved from a larger to a smaller apartment. I love the decorator tins I get from thrift shops. They are an essential part of my kitchen/dining room decor, but this time, I had only enough room for one of them.
Cornelius is a 6 month old Tabby. He was a rescue pet, who was found in a gas can, by my grandson Jason and his girlfriend Alex. Yes, when we say "rescue", we really mean it, because he was just 3 weeks old.
Instead of paying to have a screen door installed between an attached garage and the interior of the home, drape a shear lacelike material over an expansion rod. Place the rod at the top of the door inside the framework.
I painted the kitchen this weekend and wanted a new look. I had a bright idea that makes the room look bigger. Instead of having the table in the middle of the room, I placed it in the corner.
How to Install a Dimmer Switch

My entire kitchen is blue and white. I really wanted a spice rack, but white is hard to find. I ordered a brown paper towel, saran wrap, foil dispenser from Lillian Vernon and had my husband paint it white.
We just moved into our house that we have been renting out for several years and I noticed a few things are outdated. I hated the 70's era chandelier over the dining room table because of the smoked glass.
Paint Top and Bottom Cabinets Different Colors
If you happen to be re-doing your kitchen cabinets, try using 2 different colors for the upper and lower cabinets. Try using a light color for the top cabinets and a darker color for the bottom.
My husband made me a pot rack for Christmas out of galvanized pipe. I've posted it on my blog and there is a list of materials to make this yourself.
Now that the cold weather has set in, I look at this picture of my sun shiny porch and wish for spring. Each morning in warmer weather, I thank God for the warmth of my surroundings, the tree, the birds singing, the smells of Spring flowers and new mown grass in Summer.
Recycled Container As Toilet Brush Holder
This is a good idea for recycling your laundry detergent containers, Clorox or gallon milk containers. These work really well for holding your toilet bowel brush.
How to Temporarily Fix a Cracked Ceiling
The sheetrock in our ceiling developed a slight crack from a leak. We had a new roof put on, but after several years, one side of the weakened sheetrock next to the lengthening crack began to sink lower than the other.
Landlord used toilet anchor bolts about 2 inches too long. Ugly. So I tried to make the situation appear 'planned', instead of being a mistake.
Repairing A Leaky Shower Valve
This is my version of how to repair a dripping or leaky Delta "Monitor 17" or these other similar tub or tub/shower valves. These instructions are for when the valve constantly drips out the spout or shower head night and day.
My toddler was constantly getting into the pantry and helping himself to crackers or other snacks the minute I turned my back to focus on dinner. Between the ruined appetite, spilled boxes of cereal, and dents in the floor from dropped cans, I decided I HAD to keep him out.

Craft Project: Old World "Stucco" Walls
After putting up with dark paneled walls I busted loose and covered them with tissue paper. This is how I did it. It is a long process so I suggest you do one wall at a time.
Removing The Texture From A Ceiling
Back in the fifties and sixties it was really popular to put a texture on ceilings called a popcorn ceiling. One of the remodeling shows I am a big fan of, gave instructions on how to remove this bumpy, ugly, hard to patch popcorn ceiling.
