When planning to have a yard sale, be sure to find out what kinds of events are going on in your town the same weekend. If your area is like ours, it's better to have your yard sale when nothing much is going on.
The more distractions going on elsewhere, the chances of having a great yard sale isn't good. Also, holiday weekends most people spend time with family and friends, so this time isn't good for yard sales around here.

I have an annual perennial sale with a girlfriend of mine. We divide the plants in our yard and have a sale with them. Next year will be our 10th year. Because we always have it on the last Friday and Saturday of the month of May, we have many repeat customers who watch for our sale. We try to let everyone know who comes to this year's sale that we will be in the same place at the same time next year. (07/14/2005)
The opposite is true for our town. We live in a small town and most people plan their yard sales for when an event is happening. That way there are more people in town to shop the sales. As we live in a rural area off the beaten path, this works great for us. (07/15/2005)
