Preparing Walls to Paint After Removing Wallpaper?

We just removed the wallpaper in one of the rooms in our house using the mixture of fabric softener and water. Will wiping the walls down with water remove the residual fabric softener enough to paint?

You will still need to use an undercoat before you apply your color. Before painting, wipe your wall with water and then use a fine grade sandpaper to remove the excess glue off the wall. Now paint the wall with an undercoat and again with your paint.

If you don't remove all the glue, the paint will peel in a matter of weeks. There are products in the paint store that you can buy and cover the spots where the glue isnt coming off.
