Prescription Bottles for Storing Flower Seeds

labeled bottles of seedsI love to collect flower seeds from my own flowers to plant the next season or to share with others. I also like to collect from other places, but often found myself using napkins, or scrap paper as an impromptu container. Then it hit me! I started saving prescription bottles and added labels to them to use as collection containers! I keep a few in my car, large purse, and of course at home. Now I'm ready when I'm out and about where I can collect seeds!

Brilliant idea! Not only do they have their own tight enough fitting lids, but are they small enough to have a few handy just about anywhere. And the bonus is ~ you are saving the environment by reusing them AND can recycle them when needed!

I thought about doing this years ago but never had enough bottles. I sure do, now. Thanks for the tip.

I've been on daily medication for years, and I've always recycled the bottles, but when I found myself collecting seed heads off flowers while strolling through other people's gardens (What? Don't we all? lol) I knew immediately what I needed! Thanks for your feedback!

Hello !
Do you first get rid of the dessicant which is sometimes hidden in the topper of the medication container ? I always do as I fear it could dry the seeds so much that they could end up being sterile.

I haven't had any desiccants in any of the bottles I get. I wouldn't use it though.

I have a question: Does anyone have an EASY way of cleaning off the labels & sticky stuff? Mine don't come off unless I soak & scrub, & soak & scrub, &......

WD40 will take the sticky stuff right off after soaking the labels in water

Hi, I recently found another use for WD40 using a light spray on
Sticky labels that refuse to come off glass and Rx heavyweight plastic bottles...after spraying wait about 20 minutes and voila it is amazing that a single WD 40 spray usually takes the darn Rx label right off :o) AND~ it even got the awful stickers off my kids wood bedroom furniture too! There is another method of using liquid cooking oil but it takes a lot longer than WD 40Best of luck as I know this works.

I put the shiny new duck tape the pretty foils around them and use them to give jewelry in. A ring or small piece fits right in. The bright red and green for Christmas and the lavenders and blues for birthdays Everyone loves them.

Love the idea, but my personal experience is after the winter months I opened the RX bottles in the spring and the seeds were moldy....that was my bad, so just adding to the tip to make sure you dry out the seeds before putting them in the bottle or moisture can cause mold.
