Angel biscuits are a cross between a roll and a biscuit. They are just like the biscuits in the refrigerator section of the grocery store - only better. They are an excellent introduction to yeast baking, and are very easy.
This is a biscuit that was named after the Anzacs and is very popular in Australia. A crispy, nutty taste though no nuts. I presume the taste comes from the oats and golden syrup.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Melt margarine in baking pan in oven. Sprinkle cheese over margarine. Separate biscuits. Place in pan, turning to coat both sides.
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Mix Bisquick, water, and cheese. Drop by large spoonfuls onto greased baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes. After baking, while hot, brush on melted butter or margarine mixed with garlic powder, parsley flakes and Italian seasoning.
About 45 minutes before serving spray a large cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. In a 2 quart saucepan, over medium heat, heat water and margarine until melted and mixture boils.
A friend of mine sent this recipe to me. She found it in a budgeting booklet years ago in New Zealand. These biscuits were lifesavers when the money was tight. They are cheap to make, easy to bake, and delicious to eat and have become a family favorite.
Combine until just mixed. Do not over mix. Drop onto greased baking sheets and bake at 450 degrees F for 8-10 minutes.
Combine flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda in a medium bowl and mix well. Stir in vegetable oil. Add buttermilk and stir just until blended.
