Summer Fun: Dinner Picnic
Take your dinner out to the park for a midweek picnic! My husband and I have a place where we can park, take a nice walk and then eat on a shady picnic table.

Make Your Own Picnic Blanket for Less
I saw a picnic blanket at Walmart for $14.96. After carefully examining this blanket I have decided that it can be made for a lot less. Take a shower curtain liner (bought at DollarTree for $1) and an old but usable blanket and sew the liner to the blanket, add shoe string ties and a handle and WOW! a picnic blanket that has just cost maybe $3 total compared to the $15 at WalMart.

Tips for Packing a Picnic
Spring is here and it is a beautiful time for a picnic. Bring several bottles of water for drinking and one to wash up if you are hiking with no place to wash up. Napkins or some moist wipes.

Wet Wipes for a Cookout Cool Down
Wet Wipes for a Cookout Cool Down. At a cookout, picnic, or other hot weather gathering, toss a package of wet wipes in the cooler with the ice and drinks (I bought a plastic pop-up dispenser for a dollar). . .

Taking Foods to Picnics
When I take brownies or cookies to a picnic, I put several paper plates together and wrap them in foil, then I put the goodies on top. At cleanup time, I don't have to worry about transporting a dish home, and it is easy enough to take apart if someone else wants to take something messy, and needs a extra plate and some foil to cover it.

Cooler Tips
If you are bringing meat in a cooler that will not be cooked soon, freeze it before putting it in the cooler. Cans of concentrated juice can be brought along to help keep items cool as well, just be sure to put each can in its own ziplock bag in case it leaks. Soup and chili can also be made and frozen ahead of time and placed in ziplock bags in the cooler.

Keeping Pests From Flying Into Pitchers at a Picnic
When planning an outdoor party, it is always an issue of pests (bugs) flying into beverage pitchers. To control this problem, I hot glued some small metal spoons on two corners of a napkin (on the wrong side of the napkin)...
