I find that eye patches and masks can really reduce puffiness. If you want to get a good effect, then use eye masks with hyaluronic acid, cucumber, peptides, collagen, retinol, caffeine.

Apply thinly sliced potatoes to each eye and it will save you money. Then apply a light oil (coconut oil). I read that potatoes contain an enzyme called Catecholase, which contains skin-lightening properties that help reduce under-eye circles.

Sliced cucumber helps too.

From rewardme.com
Mix one teaspoon of tomato juice with one and a half teaspoon of lemon juice.
Gently apply this mixture on your dark circles and allow it to sit for 10 minutes.

Rinse it off well with cool water.
Follow this remedy twice a day for 2 - 3 weeks to see results.

Have you tried putting cucumbers over your eyes? It should sooth the dark circles and puffiness.

I don't know what redeye is, do you mean pink eye? That is a highly contagious infection and she should see a doctor. Also, has she had her blood pressure checked lately? Puffy eyes are a sign of sodium retention and when you have high blood pressure and eat salt it usually shows.

Like most people she should consciously reduce her salt intake after speaking with her doctor.

Those types of dark circles are called allergic shiners. Putting a hot towel over your eyes will immediately improve the appearance of allergic shiners.

dark under the eyes is a classic sign of iron deficiency or anemia. The first thing i would do is make sure I'm getting adequate nutrition, upping fruit/veg consumtion, etc.

After that, the tomato and cucumber are classic tried and true solutions, as is making a solution with comfrey and soaking the eyes in it.

I have dark circles under my eyes, dry skin, and fine lines. I am 58 years old. I need help desperately! I can't afford the expensive products.

I just wish I would have started a skin regimen back in my twenties.

Put an illuminating concealer under your eyes. You can get it at CVS and similar stores for not much money.

I feel your pain on this one!! It is a huge challenge. More sleep helps, but some of the dark circles are heredity so no matter what you do, they will stay with you.

You can try a product like Clinique foundation (it is liquid and you can match your skin tone) and see if that helps.

Most big box department stores that sell it will give samples so you can try before you buy. I can get a lot of use from the samples as you need very little of the product.

If you make friends with the sample person, you try to get along on those--picking up one or two every time you are in the store or if you feel you need more than a sample offers, maybe the person will share with you when the sales are and you can buy the bottle then.

I actually got a bottle at an estate sale that was almost a perfect match to my skin tone...it was $2. That was amazing and has never happened since, but that bottle lasted a year.

Hey TamiMarie61!
I have a few tips for you and a few products that wont break the bank. First off, hydration is key. Water, water and more water helps with dry skin more than you would think. The 8x8 rule is easy to remember. Drinking 8 glasses of 8oz of water a day can improve appearance of fine lines, dryness, and is overall just good for the body.

Concealers can be expensive but Pghgirl has a good suggestion about trying samples.
Sometimes it is best to try and find the underlying cause so you can maybe remedy some changes naturally.

Some of the things noted to be a 'cause' is either too much sleep or not enough sleep. Is this a problem?
Have you had your thyroid checked? This has been noted to cause dry skin and dark circles so remember this when you have a blood test done.

Dehydration can be a big factor so be sure to drink lots of water; other liquids are helpful but nothing takes the place of water.

Cold tea bags really work and these are easy to have on hand; even just a few minutes can make a difference. Cucumbers are good but rarely on hand.

Also - just being stressed about this problem can make them worse so try to find some simple ways to relax and think pleasant thoughts.

Genetics is a big factor and may be your problem but even if it is you can still lighten these circles and dryness by reviewing some ideas/suggestions from beauty 'experts'.

What home remedies can you use to lighten up dark circles or get rid of them?

All the home remedies and high priced cosmetic remedies in the world will not work according to my Opthamologist. Of course getting enough sleep on a regular basis, is your best course of action. And, this bit of advice, I am sure of due to experience. According to the doctor, the same advice goes for bags under the eyes. It is fluid retention. Cosmetics can't help.

In Ayurveda, bags under the eyes are a sign of kidney trouble. This goes with the doctor's idea of fluid retention. Try a new sleep routine (one night will not do it) and up your water (yes - water) intake.

Cut two cool thin cucumber slices. Lay down and put the cucumber slices on your closed eyes. Relax like that for about 30 minutes. Also, be sure to drink plenty of water and get enough sleep.

Dark circles under eyes are usually "Allergy Shiners" if you are an allergy sufferer, chances are , wearing the contacts are causing you more problems, hence, the darkness under the eyes. Perhaps get your eye dr. to prescribe some allergy drops such as patanol or optivar and see how that helps.

umm... i have no help to how you're supposed to make the circles leave but i know why they're there now that you have contacts!! the same thing happened to me, i was scared it was th econtacts at first but its not. ok, when you have glasses on the bottom rim usually covers up the area where circles are most common so you can't see them and when you take your glasses off then its too fuzzy to see the circles!! so they've been there all along! i've heard that putting ice under your eye helps because the circle is really just a swollen part of skin under your eye but i have no idea if this theory works... i think i'm going to try it now though! bye bye

Vitamin B-12 might help if it is an iron deficiency and see your doctor as you may need iron or more blood. Pernicious anemia is nothing that should be over sighted. Eat more spinach for example and higher content iron levels of foods.

Try cucumber juice. Grate a little bit of cucumber & squeeze the juice out. Apply with a cotton ball. Its soothing, refreshing & removes dark circles.
