Removing Burnt Taste From Thermos Drinking Spout?

My husband has a flourishing thermos, but somehow the lid with spout now smells and tastes like burnt coffee. How do we get rid of it?

Let some sudsy dishsoap water sit in it with vinegar added for a day. May have to repeat it a few times.
