Removing Coffee Smell from Empty Can?

I emptied a box of baking soda into the empty plastic coffee can. I put it up in the cupboard and promptly forgot about it. I think I checked it in a week (or possibly a month, I'm not sure) and the coffee smell was gone. Hope this helps.
