Go to Walmart and get a can of Spot Shot. It works great. I have two dachshunds and believe me it helped immensely during the puppy stage.
Good luck. (02/03/2005)

And once you get the stains out prevent them recurring by taking your pup outside hourly and stand with it, waiting until you get a result. If the pup goes maybe leave it 2-3 hourly, but always straight after feeding. You need to enclose him/her in a hard floor area over night. Lots and lots of praise for a success will encourage going outside. Staffys are such clever little dogs. I love them.

Regards.

Club Soda water, seltzer apply directly to spot and blot "not rub". It works; I had a doggie that got excited and peed.

Secondly, do not yell or make a fuss after the fact as puppy just thinks your nuts. If you happen on pup in the middle or start of pee or poo just pickup and run with it out the door and set pup gently down
and say, "here you go, good doggie" in the nicest voice you can manage and the pup will understand.

My first doggie learned that and they say it takes 3 times to correct a behavior (learned this on a Donny Osmond show). In the morning I jump up and I just put her leash on close the door and I stay inside and she knows this is her pee and poo time and at night last thing I do also. She knows as I always say "potty outside and good doggie" she loves the baby voice I do not know why, but it works so use it. When I scold I am firm and say "NO" firmly and clearly my hubby can't do this he falls for the batting eyes. Good luck. (02/03/2005)

If nothing you've bought over the counter works, go to Stanley Steamer and ask for a container of their carpet cleaner. I believe I bought it in the gallon size; however, they may have a smaller quantity for sale. (02/04/2005)

I love Woolite Pet Stain Remover. It smells nice, too. Also, if you have a light colored carpet, you could use a solution of 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide with 1 Tablespoon ammonia. Pour over stain, rub in gently, cover with clear plastic wrap and put something heavy on it. Leave on overnight or for several hours. Make sure to do a test spot before you try this. I got the recipe from a Stainmaster Carpet care book. Good luck. (02/04/2005)

It's not inexpensive, but I think it's worth every penny. It's called Anti Icky Poo and was recommended by a veterinarian. I have tried many other remedies and this is by far and away the best. It breaks down the proteins and salts and renders them odorless so your pet will not continue to return to the same spot again and again.

It's distributed by Mistermax 1-800-745-1671 or mistermax.com It's got a $$ back guarantee. According to the bottle : "AIP removes odors such as urine, feces, vomit, dead body, and others from carpets, upholstery, tile, cement, walls, and clothes." If you have dried-on urine stains and are not sure exactly when they are or where the odor is coming from, use a black light- the stains fluoresce. (02/05/2005)

White vinegar in a steam cleaner. My puppy had a difficult time potty training and when we moved, I called a professional service to clean the carpets so that I would be sure to get my deposit back and they told me to clean with straight white vinegar. The house will smell like vinegar for about three days, but it will remove the stain and odor. (Also works for cat pee.) (03/16/2005)

I have 2 staffies 1 boy and 1 girl and the best thing I found to remove dog matter (and I tried a lot of products) was simply a baby wipe, I used Huggies. Just rub the spot vigorously, it even works with old stains.
Good luck to you all and I feel for you. My bitch is having another litter and I'm keeping a pup so I'll be going through it again soon hope the wipes work. (03/27/2005)

Works like a charm, mix 1 small bottle of peroxide with 1 teaspoon baking soda and 4 drops of dishwashing liquid. Stir and pour directly on stains and leave overnight removes stains and smell like magic (do not save remaining solution, remember those volcanoes you made in school?) (01/31/2008)

We got a rescue dog recently and he is very good, but he had a bout of pooping on the carpet at the front door when we were out (bad news when we pushed open the front door!). I lifted the lumps carefully with a torn bit of cardboard box, trying to lift from the edges. I had to work with what was to hand so I put a drop of antibacterial hand wash on the stains and then got a washing up liquid bottle that was almost empty and filled it up with hot water. I surrounded the stain with the hot water mixture so it flowed under the stain and soaked upwards. I placed folded pad of kitchen roll on the stain and patted the top of the pad with a completely dry sponge. The idea was to maximize the flow of cleaner and poo stain up into the kitchen roll.

I used about three dry pads and patted and agitated. Sure enough, the remaining poo transferred to the paper and was removed. After it dried it was only visible, because it was slightly cleaner than the rest of the carpet.

I'm a professional carpet cleaner. I see more damage caused by the clean up then the pet. There is a product called Nature's Miracle, you can get it in most department or pet stores. It works without causing damage. The are many great products here: getthesmellout.com. Sometimes it isn't worth experimenting on expensive carpet. (09/30/2008)

I always use borax. Just blot up the pee with paper towels. Then sprinkle a heap of borax to cover the spot. You can lightly "pat" down the borax to get it slightly worked in, but don't pack it down. You will see the borax powder begin to turn yellow, because it is pulling the urine up out of the carpet. Once the powder dries up, just vacuum up the pile and the pee stain and odor should be gone.

This also works with poo, just wipe up all solids, blot with water and try to get the stain blotted up as much as you can with paper towels, and pile on the borax for the remaining stain and odor. Borax is great stuff. You can get it in the laundry detergent isle, it come in a box. It works great on cut pile carpets. We have used this technique for almost 6 years in 2 different homes and it has never discolored our carpets. (10/11/2008)

So how do you damage your carpet when cleaning up a pet accident? as I said you want to treat a urine stain that's in the underlay, but not just soak it with soapy water. The only time you want to soak the area is with the spotter.

So why do you get brown marks that look like the stain when the carpet is dry. It's the colour coming out the backing and rising up to the tips of the fibres in your carpet. Carpets dry from bottom up and if your backing is a natural one the colour is risen up to the top. This always looks like a urine stain, but its now a stain that you have made by soaking the carpet.

Always keep the water to a minimum and as I said only soak with the spotter. Then dry out and put a towel with a heavy object on top. (not metal or wood that has has wood stain in it). (02/03/2009)

Thanks. I especially like that the site came up so easily on google. Also, that so many ideas are cheap and environmentally friendly. (02/21/2009)
