How do you remove a drain after the cross (inside) breaks off, and the drain is smooth. I read about something called the Golden Extractor, but I have not been able to find a tool.
I read on a different site, where a fellow used a reciprocal saw to put a cut through one side. He was then easily able to bend it with a screwdriver and get it out. Sounds like it will work, but careful you don't cut into the tub (08/23/2005)
Golden Extractor - Call Rector Seal for a dealer near you. 800-231-3345
Other option is a drain key (expands to fit drain opening.
Not a cheap item $40+(quote) (01/09/2006)
