Removing Grease Stains from Clothing

To remove grease and/or oil stains from clothing I prerub the areas with TIDE liquid detergent. If the clothing has been previously been put in the dryer your chances of removing the stain will be poor as heat sets the stain. This remedy only works on a freshly set stain. Happy clothing stain removal.

If you get grease stains while cooking/eating, try sprinkling with cornstarch..let it absorbe the stain, brush away, then add dishwashing liquid...BTW GREEN dishwashing liquid will remove black grease from clothes. (07/27/2004)

My husband and i were both truck drivers in the Army and we used to put Pine Sol or Simple Green in with our laundry and it would take out the grease and not leave stains. (07/30/2004)

I have tried almost all of the suggestions, from simple green, OOPS, dawn and baking soda, all the commercial laundry stain removers, and find that each of them will remove some stains from some fabrics. But I haven't found anything that will remove all stains from all fabrics, so I have been experimenting.

I have just salvaged 4 shirts and 3 slacks with CASTROL SUPER CLEAN TOUGH TASK CLEANER-DEGREASER. It removed stains that none of the others did. But alas, I have two stains it didn't touch. So I'm still experimenting, but wanted to share this wonderful product with you all. (04/22/2005)

If you catch the stain early you can try rubbing bay powder or flour on it, sometimes these two will suck out the grease (05/26/2005)

As I have read in other places, removing grease or oil stains from clothes can be done by using shampoo or dawn power dissolver or even just dawn dish washing liquid. Since all of these are used to remove grease from various things, why not clothes too? Also, I think cheese whiz is suppose to work too. (05/20/2006)

Goo Gone will get engine grease and other industrial greases from clothing. I tried it on a light pair of colored khaki shorts. Spray it on, let it sit for about 10 minutes then wash as usual. (07/18/2006)
