Removing Stickers from Windows and Mirrors

My granddaughter put Christmas labels on my windows and they won't come off. Is there something besides buying the goo gone to take them off? Some kind of household product?

I have stumbled on this wonderful product called Goo-Gone. It works to get the stickers off of almost everything including plastic. (09/24/2004)

Use cooking oil that you have warmed in the microwave. It will remove the stickers then just use glass cleaner and soapy water to remove the oil. I have done this for years!

Try antibacterial hand gel. It's wonderful removing all types of adhesives and inks including markers. It also smells good. (10/20/2004)

I got the idea to use rubbing alcohol from your site. Unfortunately, I was out, but your idea gave me an idea. I tried nail polish remover and that took the sticker off a new mirror. (01/15/2005)

Removing Stickers or Tape from Windows

To remove stickers or tape from windows, I find that if you add heated vinegar to a little spray bottle and apply a bit, it will remove the glue in no time at all.

Thank you Guys so much! I thought I was doomed. My childish stickers have been stuck on my mirror forever. I tried goo at first, it didn't really work. Then I tried the antibacterial hand sanitizer, which was great..and even the heated vinegar did wonders.Thank you guys! (04/28/2006)

You can use a razor blade scrapper that you use to take paint off of windows too. If any residue is left, Goof-Off works good too. (06/09/2006)

Stickers on any surface can be loosened by heating them with a hair drier, and scraping gently with the edge of a credit card or putty knife. (03/13/2007)

Gals, did you know that CocaCola works wonders at removing stickers? Bought some large mirrors and couldn't scrape the residue off from the paper stickers. I accidentally spilled some coke on it and the glue slid off.what a wonderful find. (03/14/2007)

The most efficient way to remove stickers from glass is with a razor cutter. Hardware stores sell special tools and they're not too expensive. Apply a little baby oil to any remaining goo, scrub with the scruffy side of a sponge, and then use window cleaner. (01/01/2008)

Why do new windows require so many stickers. Some came away easy with soapy water, however I was left with huge eye sores on my six back windows. Gave this site a look and hey presto! Nail polish remover worked brilliantly - so thanks for the advice.

Blimin stickers on Microwave doors, who stupid idea was it to put the safety stickers on the DOOR. I bought a stainless steel Microwave, got it home, unpacked it and carefully peeled off the safety sticker-result-one big sticky mess. I took it back and they were ok about it. I picked a new one brought it home and guess what? Another flamin sticker, we've been trying to get this off for about an hour now, tried nail polish remover, scraped it with our nails, soapy hot water, all that remains is the WD40 trick and I'm not sure if I dare try it.

Editor's Note: I'd try Goof Off, put on a piece of paper towel or drip a little on the sticker stuff. Let sit for a few seconds and wipe off. It worked for me on window stickers. Make sure that you wash the area well with soap and water before using. (07/28/2008)

Just take the blade out of a box cutter and gently wedge it underneath the sticker. Slowly it will come off then use an orange based cleaner or goo-gone to take off residue. (08/01/2008)

I rubbed baby oil on a sticker that was on an aquarium and then I used a credit card and lifted one of the corners of the sticker and it peeled right off. Then I cleaned it with glass cleaner. (08/15/2008)

I can't believe no one knows this the easiest way is to wet a piece of glad wrap, and wrap over the sticker leave for a few minutes, and the sticker will just slide off. If there is any glue left, it will just rub off with your finger. This is how I also remove stickers off the car windows. (10/08/2008)

I tried several ideas below and they didn't work on some tough old stickers. But combining several of the suggested methods did the trick. It's great to have all these ideas in one place! This worked on my stickers: rubbed Goo-Gone on decal with plastic wrap, held it in place with the plastic wrap to soak for a couple of hours, then used a fresh straight razor blade to slowly scrape things off. Blasting the soaked decal with a hot hair dryer might have also helped, but I didn't have to go that far. (10/22/2010)
