Removing a Brother Thread Trimmer Cam Lever Assembly?

I have a Brother Exedra industrial sewing machine model DB2-B737-935 Mark II. We need to remove the broken thread trimmer cam lever assembly. We removed the screws and try to tape the shaft that holds this assembly on either end, but it feels like we hit a stop and we don't want to hit the shaft too hard and damage it.
