Repairing a Sofa-bed Frame?

Our sofa-bed is stuck. We think the frame may be bent. We are not sure why it won't open out or close now.

Can you help?

Look for an obstruction of some kind. Objects can get through the cushions of your sofa and into the internal mechanism of the bed frame.

Is it locked? Some manufacturers put a locking mechanism on the sofa bed. If this lock is engaged you will not be able to open the sofa bed. Contact your sofa bed's manufacturer if you are not sure whether the bed is locked and to find out how to unlock it.

It may be rusted or not used in awhile. Put some metal lubricant on the joints.

See if your local furniture store has a repair service. Ours has a guy who does home visits to give estimates.

It would be really helpful if you provided info on the manufacturer. Without that, it is all just conjecture. THe main possibilities have already been discussed:

1. rust
2. obstructions
3. contact the manufacturer in case there's a locking mechanism that has been deployed. Per this site: "There is usually a clip somewhere where you can lock the mechanism. The removal company probably put it on when they moved, because sofa beds are complete pigs for springing out and bashing you in the legs when you tip them to move them." forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=1559781

Most of these sofa beds have some sort of lock so that they do not come undone at inappropriate times. If you check the frame and can either figure out whether it's locked, or as i said, call the manufacturer, or look online, that should solve your problem

if you can turn it over....... look at the joints etc..... their may be a toy or animals toy caught in it? if so . pull out and then might want to grease the moving joints...

There is usually a clip somewhere where you can lock the mechanism because sofa beds are known for springing out and bashing you in the legs when you tip them to move them. These clips can get locked without you knowing it.

Most manufacturers put a locking mechanism on their sofa beds but different companies place these locks in different places. You may have to check with the manufacturer for instructions on finding this lock.

If you cannot find a lock then be sure there is nothing (an object) obstructing the mechanism (this may take 2 or 3 people).

If you have not used your sofa-bed in some time then it may need lubrication; WD40 will work but be sure to protect your floor.

If the frame is damaged it may not be something you can handle but there may be some articles on uTube about how to fix a frame.
