Rescue Dog Peeing Everywhere?

I just got a rescue dog, he was abused and abandoned and we took him in. We think he's at least three years old and he's a Yorkie mixed with Westie. We take him outside and he goes every time, but he gets back inside and two minutes later he pees on something. We aren't sure how to train him, but he acts like he knows how to tell us to take him out, but he won't do it. I'm sure he's scared because he was abused, but he needs to stop peeing in our new house. Help!

Your dog sounds confused and most likely he is. I might look for some professional training advice. The things that work for a normal dog do not always work for an abused dog. Maybe a good internet search or trip to the library could get your started. Bless you for taking this dog in. Good luck.

First of all, it wasn't particularly smart of you to choose an abandoned, possibly abused rescue dog to live in your new house. I appreciate that people rescue animals, but rescues come with baggage and it's best that only people who are truly prepared to work with abused dogs do so. I can tell by the way you put it- "he needs to stop"- that you aren't this person.

Find a Yorkie or Westie rescue that will help the dog through the use of experienced fosters and rehome him there. Then adopt a dog with good bathroom habits to live with you in your new home.

Unfortunately she is right. If the concern is the 'new home getting damaged', getting a rescue and fretting over it is a bad idea.
That being said - I know this is an old post, so I wonder where the dog is now - but what you can do is pee pad training - pee pads near crate, a little bit of their previous urine must be hidden between the pads - and let them go there till they build their confidence to listen to you and go outside.

Rescue is not easy, and what the previous commenter suggested is probably best.

If your dogs telling you he wants a pee,go with him as he or she might be insecure with there surroundings ,give it time and patience and once had a pee say good girl or boy and give them a treat
