Our riding mower won't turn left or right. It will go straight and backwards. It's an 11 yr. old John Deere. Also the belt won't turn the blade; it is loose when put into gear. It ran great until all this happened; the not turning and belt being loose.

Make sure the drive belt is routed correctly. Also check the idler pulley, which adjusts the tension in the drive belt. There is an excellent article here:homeguides.sfgate.com/
