Roof Repair for Low Income Individual?

I know you probably don't help with what I am in desperate need of, but I am just hoping that someone can help me find the right club or organization to help me. For years I was in the position to help others and trust me I did, from helping people in a tri-plex that was burnt to the ground get back on their feet with doing the leg work for them to paying people's insurance and giving food, you name it if I could help I did.

Now I am on disability living month to month on a shoe string budget and can't seem to find anyone to help. I have a hole in my roof and a few more really bad spots and am in desperate need of a roof. My kids said they would help and could help with a few hundred, but they are not rich either. I paid my house off to be able to make it on my disability income and it's a nice doublewide. But if I don't get this fixed asap it won't be nice anymore.

I can't afford payments of anything more than 50.00 a month. I don't have TV or internet at home because I live on that tight of a budget. I called a roofer and he looked at it and said he could do it for 3000.00. Who has 3000.00 these days? When I was working sure no problem. I don't qualify for grants because I am not 62 or older. I am only 49. I live by myself and have no clue where to turn for help.

I make 1230. a month and my medicare is taken out of that and so is my car payment, insurance, cell bill, power, water, garbage, medicine, doctor visits, gas, and food. Please if some knows of anyone that can help let me know.

Check with your local Social Security Office and see if you qualify for medicare/medicaid. Your disability is probably too high to get these things. I get $700.00 retirement Social Security and even before I was old enough to get medicare I was on complete medicaid and when I got on medicare that took care of what I would have been taken out of my Social Security checks every month. I also don't have a car, I limit my trips to ones that are absolutely necessary and take cabs, it is cheaper than making car payments and other expenses associated with cars.

I am on housing assistance and on food stamps. When I got divorced in 1983 we agreed to sell our house and I moved into an apartment and I am so glad I did, I don't have to worry about what could go wrong with a house, lawn work, shoveling snow, etc. I have two TVs, computer with internet, and a land line phone. The only cell phone I have is a prepaid one that I use strictly for when I am someplace and have to call a cab to get home.

I believe there are many people who would feel "blessed" to receive 1250 dollars per month on a regular basis. and have a home free and clear!

That said - where people live many times dictates their "normal" cost of living expenses. Also, the services people really need to survive are not also the same for everyone. Maybe you can reevaluate what you "need" and be able to cut some corners - but maybe not.

Are you presently putting that "extra" $50 per month in a savings account to go toward the roof repair?

Just for a start - maybe your children could help with covering your roof with one of the special tarps (made for this) that many hurricane survivors have used - some last for years. I had to do this after a storm - and it worked. I found my tarp at a farm supply store. I believe these may be the same tarps that used to cover/protect large stacks/rolls of hay from the weather.

Of course, this would only be a temporary fix but it may save your home until a better solution is found.

Many agencies like the Salvation Army have lists of people to contact for getting help in all kinds of situations. Your local church may be able to help or may help you find someone who can help. You may find that you are too "well off" for some of these agencies but they may be able to help you find a way to finance the repairs.
