Sewing Machine Stuck in Reverse?

My sewing machine (Jarome 1410) is stuck in reverse. I have cleaned and oiled it as per the instruction manual and have run the machine for a minute and no improvement. Please advise?

This could be a problem with the reverse mechanism on your machine being jammed with lint and old oil. This forms a glue and doesn't allow the machine to move forward. Normally this happens when a machine hasn't been used for a long time.

Try removing the base plate on the machine from the underside. Look for the reverse level on the machine. This should look like a metal lever that is trying to move a collar around the shaft.

Apply a small amount of WD 40 to the area. Apply to both sides of the shaft. Now press the reverse on the machine rapidly for a few seconds to try and loosen the jam. If this doesn't help, you will need to move it by hand back and forth.
