A Doctor informed me that cooking corn this way allows the chemicals farmers use in aerial spraying to prevent weevils, borers and other pests to be cooked into the corn. The chemicals are dried into the husks and silks. He advised always remove the husks and silks before cooking. This way the corn is perfectly safe to eat.
