I have a Singer Confidence sewing machine. So I need to stitch a hem on canvas. The needle is going up and down normally. The bobbin and needle seem to be threading properly, but no stitches are transferring to the fabric?

You may have the wrong needle. Canvas needs a heavy duty needle. The lighter needles may not be able to pierce through the canvas.
Make sure the upper tension disks are threaded correctly. Make sure the presser foot is up when seating the thread through the upper tension.
