Smoke Alarms Won't Shut Off

How about this for a smoke alarm that won't stop beeping. Batteries changed, all four alarms disconnected and placed in the truck outside, and the hard wired alarm still beeped every few minutes. Then I vacuumed out all four alarms, reconnected with all fresh batteries, test button pressed, green light on, the beep continues every few minutes. The dog is going crazy. Can anyone help out?

Smoke alarms do go bad, even new ones. Most use a plug in power connector so just turn off the power, remove the detector from its mount, unplug the connector and go to a hardware store or home center and find a replacement, which should be the same model or a rated replacement of the same brand. Most of the brands do not work together, so stick with the same brand. If that doesn't work, get an electrician to trouble shoot. (12/07/2010)
