"Smooth Away" Hair Removal Pads

Does anyone know what kind of crystals "Smooth Away" is made from? Or any other ingredients used to make the surface of the pads?

I've been wondering about that myself. I was considering going to an As Seen on TV store here in Atlanta just to see if I could find out. I hope someone has them and knows. (01/30/2009)

Here is a website concerning this product:

I would think it would be more expensive than shaving would be. I read where you have to buy a new pad every two times you use it on your legs. That sounds like too much money to me.

Personally speaking, there are so many toxins in the environment and in lotions etc that we put on our skin, I would hesitate to use any product that would irritate the skin the way this one says it does. Leaving the skin more vulnerable to chemicals, toxins etc. (02/01/2009)

Watching that commercial today, I was pondering the careful use of very fine sandpaper. Emphasize the 'careful' part, as pressing hard might cause abrasions. (02/01/2009)

There are many confusing feedbacks on this product. I suggest trying it for yourself and seeing if it works for your skin. (02/02/2009)

I found these pads at a Walgreen's pharmacy saving the shipping and handling. I decided to try them at least once. I was pleasantly surprised as to how smooth they made my legs. I have very sensitive skin and showed no signs of irritation whatsoever. The polishing pads were very smooth and did not feel grainy at all. I was very careful not to apply too much pressure on my skin. I am not saying that everyone will be satisfied, but I certainly was. I intend to continue to use them at least until I use all the pads that came with the original package. (02/03/2009)

I bought something like this years ago at Ames. It was called Hair Off Mitten. I really liked it. I don't know if it's just like the Smooth Away Hair Removal Pad, but it was cheaper. I did a search for the Hair Off Mitten and found out that it is still sold today. (02/03/2009)

This product was no good for me. I couldn't get any hair to remove, all I got was red skin, and no results. I would not buy this product, as it's a waste of money. (02/09/2009)

I think shaving is much more economical. It takes me 20 seconds in the shower to shave. Why waste the money? (02/16/2009)

If you want to save a few more dollars, use conditioner instead of shaving cream. You use less of it and it leaves you really soft. (02/16/2009)

I had bought it three days ago and tried it today. When I used it, I realized it wasn't working. Then, I decided to try it on my armpits, and nothing was happening, so I tried harder, and then my skin became irritated. A few minutes later, it began burning, and now it has been about 5 hours and it's still burning. I don't recommend buying this rubbish. (02/19/2009)

I bought this product yesterday and love it. It removes my facial hair wonderfully with almost no pressure and doesn't take long. I guess how long would depend on the type of one's hair. Haven't tried it on my legs and probably won't. The instructions say to remove all skincare products, etc. prior to use, so that may be the problem many people have encountered. Plus you have to use a circular motion. (03/16/2009)

I bought this product and read all the directions. I did exactly as they say and this did nothing but irritate my skin, even after using lotion my skin is still raw. But I still have hair. No matter where I tried it this did not work at all. I do not recommended this product for anyone. (03/16/2009)

I was thinking of trying this product. Now, I still don't know what to do. Some say yes, some say no. Reckon I'll stick to shaving! (03/16/2009)

Being it seems to work for some and not others, I think some skins might not be able to take it well. I got it for unwanted facial hair, and tried it out on my arm first. The hair came right off my arm without any problems. But when I tried it on my face, it was a real job, and to top it off, I'm stuck at home now with very dry, raw skin on my face.

It hurt for the entire day that I did it, and now I have burn marks on my face. I don't blame them, it's like I said. Maybe some skin types can take it and some can't. (03/21/2009)

I would never ever recommend this product to anyone. I recently used it on my upper lip and am now suffering with a burn that is very visible and embarrassing. Does anyone have a number for them where I could get my money back? (04/13/2009)

I just bought my kit today. I gotta say, after spending $700 on laser hair removal a couple years ago and having it ALL grow back, it was worth it to spend $12 at Wal-Mart to give this a shot. Facial hair that's been shaved is too coarse to remove with Nair or any similar product. I could probably let it grow an inch long and try to have it waxed, but ouch! Short of shelling out a few more hundred dollars for electrolysis, this wasn't a big deal. I do feel bad for the people who bought it on an infomercial. Word to the wise: when something new comes out, wait a couple months then buy it at Wal-Mart.

I just finished using it and my skin is a little tingly, not too bad though. I put on some anti-acne cream to get down into the pores, so hopefully that will keep me from getting any kind of break-out. My chin and upper lip do feel smooth, but it did take quite awhile to get done, about one hour.

All in all, not a bad deal for $12. PS - Mine has a little vibrating egg that sits on the big pad, it's supposed to help speed up the process. (04/14/2009)

Oh my gosh, I bought these on Friday. The worst! There's a really funny play-by-play review of this product on RockstarMamaOnline.com, I wish I read that before wasting $12. It really hurt, and it didn't get rid of the hair. It's like a piece of sandpaper. Such a disappointment. (04/25/2009)

I purchased the smooth away kit from Dollar general for 10.00. I used as directed on my arms and it worked great. I got my legs waxed yesterday and that was awful so this seems like a better alternative. After my arms were really dry and itchy, but after lotion they felt great. It seems to be a great product but I do not think that I would ever put it on my face. If you have sensitive skin it may be a bad idea. My friend works at a laser hair removal place and she told me that their prices just went to over $4,000 for both legs, so this seems like a little investment to try. It does take longer than the commercial says but after I did the circular motion it worked great. Will keep using. (05/05/2009)
