When I want to soak clothes over night, I fill the washing machine, let it wash for a minute or so getting the detergent in the clothing, then I cut the machine off and let the load soak. When I'm ready to finish washing, I just cut the machine back on.

In the past, I just lifted the lid as my machine will stop but I no longer do that. My hairdresser did the same and left it for the weekend. During that time, the electricity went off. When it came back on, water started running in the machine again and it flooded the shop ruining the floor and the woodwork.
