Softening Granulated Sugar?

I have two 5 pound bags of white granulated sugar that is very hard. How can I soften it for use?

Microwave it for 1 minute. That should work. If not, place a piece of bread in the packaging & it'll take a day or so, but it'll loosen it right up.

When I lived in Houston I kept a slice of bread in my sugar canister because of the humidity there.

I was going to try the microwave method. So I put it in a big bowl and ripped the paper wrapping off. (had been stored in zip lock).

But it is coming apart by scraping it with a fork. So easy my 92 year old mother can do it. Hooray!
