This costume was got so much attention. I was so glad I went through the effort in making a handmade costume. Most of what I do is just trial and error so don't be afraid to try.
Halloween Costume: Bun in the Oven
My daughter was pregnant at Halloween time so they made a "Bun in the Oven" costume. Her husband was outfitted with a white apron and chef's hat and carried a mixing bowl and wooden spoon.
Halloween Costume: Deviled Egg
The instructions are quite simple. First go to the fabric store and pick up a couple of yards of white felt and 1/2 a yard of bright yellow felt. You also need store bought materials for being a devil, such as the the red horns, the tail and the pitchfork.
Halloween Costume: Frog Prince
Cut a large white circle from the felt and stick on the front of the onesie/jumper as the belly of the frog. Cut gold circles from the gold [border] paper and use double-sided sticky tape OR hot glue to scatter on the green part of the frog's body.
Halloween Costume: Little Lady Bug
First, cut parallel to the 8.5 inch side of the black adhesive-backed felt in 4 or more strips. Then, horizontally stick the black felt strips to the front of the red leotard.
Halloween Costume: Headless Horseman
This costume has always won first place any time I have used it. We usually have someone lead the child around for safety.
Halloween Costume: Hungarian Girl
My grand daughter needed a Hungarian outfit for her heritage presentation at school. Thrift store here I come. I used a Hungarian doll my mother-in-law gave to my daughter when she was about 6 as a pattern for the design.
This is a spider costume I made. It is a long sleeve turtle neck shirt, skirt and black pants. For the shirt, I took 4 black pant legs stuffed them and sewed them to the shirt under her arms.
The body and head are made from cardboard boxes then wrapped with art paper to make the silver chrome paint more metallic. Head has a construction helmet, making the inside fitted to head.
Halloween Pet Costume: Minnie Mouse
This costume was made by reusing several things we had on hand. The skirt was from a Poodle Skirt Girl Costume. We cut the top attached shirt and vest off and used just the skirt. The t-shirt was one we already had at the house.
Halloween Costume: Dora the Explorer
Nothing to it, I just got a pink shirt, orange shorts, yellow socks, white shoes, backpack with purple straps, and I made a map by rolling up a piece of paper and drawing the eyes, eyebrows and mouth. I found "Boots" the monkey on Ebay.
Halloween Costume: Dog the Bounty Hunter
My daughter thought this up for her daughter, who is my grand daughter.
I used a plastic trash bag and painted it with red and white. I doubled the trash bag and glued on. I got big tennis shoes and painted them red, got a yellow shirt. For the suspenders, I used plastic white tall kitchen bags and velcroed them to the pants.
Halloween Costume: Minnie Mouse
Draw circles on t-shirt using round object of your choice. Paint in circles with white craft paint. Use eyebrow pencil to draw on nose and whiskers.
Halloween: Little Indian Maiden
I took fleece material, cut it and made it into a simple jumper. I made it big so she could dress warm that night. Cut fringe and sew trim on bottom of skirt. Add a head band with a feather and feather trim in front of jumper.
Halloween Costume: Tooth Fairy
I made this costume for my daughter when she was in Kindergarten. I always try to create costumes with great ideas and little money. The main dress was purchased as small pieces of shiny fabric from Walmart, depending on the size of your child.
Halloween Couples Costume: Salt and Pepper Shaker
My husband and I went as salt and pepper shakers a few years back and won first prize. This costume is so easy to make and cost little. I know you can buy these but why would you when half the fun is creating it!
Halloween Costume: Cheerios and Milk
This was actually very easy to make. I got a couple of cardboard boxes (the right size for my kids). Then I found pictures on the internet and printed them out in several pieces and glued them onto the boxes.
Peasant Skirt, black long sleeve shirt, long scarf and old costume jewelry. None of this costume had to be made.
Halloween Costume: A Bunch Of Grapes
I started with a sweatshirt that had plenty of space. I blew up a bunch of balloons, and used safety pins to pin them to the sweatshirt (through the part on the other side of the knot, obviously), in the shape of a bunch of grapes.
My Frugal Life: Staying Out Of Debt
We started living a frugal life because we have 7 children, and I wanted to stay home with them. We did not want to be saddled with debt. I planted a garden, raised chickens, and beef.
