Stains on a Dooney and Bourke Purse

I have NO IDEA how to remove a stain on my Dooney and Bourke Bag. My bag is WHITE and its style is "IT". My bag has a blue stain on it because it rained and my dark blue jeans touched it. Please help me.

Stains on a Dooney and Bourke Purse

Janette, I would get SPOT SHOT. It now comes in a spray bottle (blue with orange spot on the label). You can find it at most grocery stores, Wal-Mart and Target. I have used it on just about everything to remove stains and it works super! (01/31/2007)

Don't use nail polish remover it will ruin the purse! My uncle did this type of thing for a living to remove dye you can use rubbing alcohol but depending on size of stain it may take several applications. Use a clean cloth very wet with alcohol and dab on the fabric do not rub. It will spread the dye. Continue to do this using clean side of cloth once it has dye on it turn rag as to not reapply dye after you removed it. Hope this helps. If your not confident to do it bring it to a shoe repair shop and ask if they will (01/31/2007)

I would take a cotton swab and try to clean off the stain with first soap, the alcohol or solvent. With grease I would apply powder &/or K2R - and then you can touch up the color with shoe polish, again with a swab. (05/10/2007)

I have a white (quote)IT(/quote)Dooney and Bourke I had a pink stain. I tried Tide To Go pen and the stain got lighter. Also try the clorox pen. It lightens it up well but it will take a lot of applications. Good Luck! (08/22/2007)

Stains on a Dooney and Bourke Purse

I sent my D&B IT bag back because it had yellowed. That was in May. They offered me a new one at half price, but I figured it would yellow also, so I asked that it be returned. Today is Oct 24. I have yet to receive my bag back from Dooney and Bourke. I will never buy another one and I hope you decide to do the same. (10/24/2007)

I have the cloth green Dooney Bourke with some small, (not really noticeable), looks like a grease stain. Do you think the rubbing alchohol would work on this also? Or it it just for leather care.

I also have a medium clutch with never a problem in over 15 year. I got a red leather one, 7 years ago, on sale, as the saleswoman forgot to move the sign away from the D&B area, so she HAD to sell it as 'advertised' at $89.00! It was over $250.00

This green one I purchased last year from QVC, another decent price and both leather ones look like new. I use saddle soap, VERY sparingly on them every other month or so. It does help tremendously.
Saddle shop is great on all kinds of leather, never ran off the colors, and it's very gentle leaving the leather supple and shiny and new. Just make sure to use a clean cloth for application and make sure you rub it all off.

Hope this helps, and I'm hoping someone can help with the cloth bag.

Thanks in advance.

Cleaning Handbags & Removing Purse Stains

FYI: It may not be apparent at first due to the bleaching effect, but over time bleach will yellow certain fabrics (the way acid-whitened paper will yellow with age). Also, there is no safe way to remove pen marks or lipstick stains, particularly when those stains are on leather. The manufacturer will confirm this. And don't use rubbing alcohol on leather unless you don't mind it drying out and cracking. Peroxide may cause non-permanent dyes to fade, but nurses and veterinarians swear by it for fabric stains. Anything else you apply is at your own risk. Of course, it is a different story when using any of the aforementioned on PVC coated fabric. The chemical reactions are not so predictable.

Perhaps the best way to prevent the white IT bags from yellowing is to keep them clean, keep the air circulation good (don't store them in tight spaces or plastic bags), and to keep them out of hot car trunks and extended periods of direct sun. (01/29/2008)
