Using Glue to Make a Mohawk with Spikes

I'm going to try glue to put my hair in a Mohawk

with spikes. Does glue come out easy?

I just use cheap hairgel and hairspray. Blowdry the heck out of it and you're golden. Any tips for trimming the back by yourself?

I use just a hair Gel call "EXTREME". I haven't see it in the U.S.A just in my country. It comes ready for people who want a spiky hair.

Glue works fine, mix one part glue to 1/2 part water for best results. (11/18/2007)

My Mohawk is 13 inches long and I use G2beglued and Rave hairspray 4x and Elmer's glue. Then blow dry it a lot, till it won't fall. It should bounce a little though.

I found that the Elmer's blue gel glue works the best. I just separate my spikes, get my hands a little wet, use a good amount (and by good amount, I mean a good amount) of glue, and blow dry. Simple as that, just touch it up once in awhile and I bet it could last a week and a half. It washes right out too, just shampoo twice and condition. (01/02/2008)

All ya gotta do is use Got2bglued hairspray (can looks like a fog horn), a comb, and a blow dryer.

Hold a piece of your hawk, spread with a comb, add some hair spray, hold, blow dry scalp then work your way to the top. This works best when you do individual pieces at a time, like 1-2 in pieces. Here's a pic.

I found a cheap product call Stringy Spike Glue by Labella, it holds up to 20 hours and washes out easier than glue. (01/06/2008)

If you want your hair to stay up with no shine, use shaving cream. (01/31/2008)

Gelatin works like a charm. Just apply it after using the strongest hairspray you can find. Way easier to wash out than glue.

Don't use egg whites, they spell bad after a few hours (especially in the heat). I just use hairspray and Elmer's glue. (02/08/2008)

I have at least 13-15 inch hair, it's thick and it's curly. I used Rave Hairspray, it takes a bit longer to dry but it stays if you do it right.

I lay on my side, or hold the hair up, but this makes my arms tired, and brush out my hair holding it as I spray the base and dry it. Making sure the base is dry I work my way up the hair brushing it straight as I do this. Blow it dry completely before you try moving it around, make sure both sides are stiff and dried.

It washes out for me within one washing, it may be more for you, but like I said I've got thick hair. In the picture here the hair is a bit wavy, but I kinda liked it like that. Also note that I have not shaved or cut my hair into a Mohawk, it's a regular haircut. (02/13/2008)

I just stick my head between my legs and get Tresemme Freeze Hold hairspray all over it and blow dry. Seems to work OK. (04/10/2008)

Use jello. It's easier to get out. I had a friend that used to do it. (04/14/2008)

Hairspray and a hairdryer works best in my opinion. Soap is rubbish and you are in a bit of a mess if it rains. Sugar water is a bit better, but still quite bad and even though it has good hold I wouldn't advise putting glue in it. Use a can of cheap hairspray, hair dryer, done. (05/17/2008)

Here's what you do to get the perfect fan hawk, no matter what length. You get a piece of cardboard that is a bit longer than the height of your hawk. Hold it up against the side of your head and trace your head from your forehead to however far back your hawk goes. Cut that out, so that what you have left is basically an arc. Now put that up to your head while you lay sideways on the floor and fan your hawk out so that it is exactly where you want it, and use Got2b Glue Freeze spray (in the yellow can) and spray it thoroughly, then hair dry it while its still laying against the cardboard. Keep the glue away from your hair. I had a friend who was so frustrated and desperate, she used a mixture of Galactive glue (blue and sparkly), Elmer's glue sticks (extra gross) and dabs of wood glue where she "needed" it. She's bald now, and that's not joke.

For myself, when I had it, I took more of the "death hawk" approach, which I find to be much quicker and still stylish. I used Big Sexy Hair hair spray.

Upside down, back comb it like crazy, and spray it. Fluff and repeat. For me, it takes only 10-15 minutes, which is great if you're too lazy to do anything. (05/24/2008)

I hope you're not talking about Elmer's Glue. There are special kinds of hair gels and putties that work just like a strong holding glue. You could try something from Got 2 Be or Fantastic Sam's. Just don't use household glue. (06/04/2008)

After years of research and experimentation, the Got2be Hairspray is the best product out there for hawks. A blowdryer, a large comb, a can of spray and a lot of patience, and you have an adequate hawk. It becomes an art. Too much spray and it will separate leaving gaps. Not enough spray and it will fall before the night is through. Mixing with the Got2be Glued gel will also provide mixed results. I usually only use it at the very front and very back, to prevent them from falling.

A good hawk is an engineering marvel. All the hairs need to be connected in some way in order to provide a support structure. Any splits or gaps could cause one section to fall. So the real secret is making sure the support structure is sound. When you bend a small section over, it should take darn near the whole hawk with it. Experiment until you find what works best for you. (09/23/2008)

Sebastion Liquid Steel and Bed Head Hard Head Wax works fine for me, I only have 4-5 inch Hawk now. It washes out really easy after about 5-7 minutes of hot water. (11/30/2008)

I use Murray's with beeswax, soft and flexible, but keeps it straight and razor thin all day, takes a long time to get out completely. (03/23/2009)
