What Breed Is My Dog?

We just got our new little puppy and she was sold to us as a "Shorkie". The seller did not have the parents on site. She claimed that her mom was the mom of the puppy and the dad was her mom's friend's dog. I have a funny feeling she was not being truthful, because I found the puppy on puppy find and she has been selling dogs on there for 2 years. She does look like a Yorkie mix, but I do not see Shih-tzu at all. We took her to get washed today and the groomer agreed that the pup does not look like a Shorkie. What do you think she is mixed with?

Certainly Yorkie - but does it matter ? She's just beautiful. Enjoy her for what she is. You have a little treasure.

This is a "puppy mill" dog.

It could really be any combination of genetics at all. It does look like there is some Yorkie in there.

I hope you took the dog to the vet for a checkup right away. Puppy mill dogs are subject to all sorts of illnesses, including parasites and Parvo. They may also have genetic problems due to being inbred, or problems that develop later in life due to the poor nutrition that puppy mill dogs receive as infants. Puppy mill dog mothers are often fed the cheapest food possible and the puppies are malnourished because the mother can't produce enough milk.

In the future, be more vigilant about purchasing a dog. Not only should you see both parents, you should see the home environment that the puppy was raised in and other puppies or dogs that are there. If excuses are given for why you can't see all these things, just assume you are dealing with a disreputable breeder.
