I would guess a mix, a DNA test is the only way to be sure. I would tell your home insurance company that he is a mutt, because some companies won't insure pit bulls, as they have an undeserved reputation for biting. I've never known a well socialized and well treated pit bull to bite.

DNA tests run about $60. I did one on my Border Collie because I thought she was a BC and greyhound mix, nope, turned out to be BC and standard poodle! The breed doesn't matter if you have a nice dog.
