I was told when I bought him that he was a pure breed Pit Bull. I only saw his mom. Can any of you give me an idea of what he is?

The picture is pretty fuzzy, so it's hard to see him well, but from what I can see, he looks like a Pit Bull.
I'm not seeing full-blooded American Staffordshire Terrier in your dog - he looks like he's probably mixed with Lab. Do an online image search to have a look at photos of this mix, and your vet will likely confirm it as well.
