I am in an office, and I am trying to identify this houseplant. It has long leaves with purple backs. I think I have all but killed it. The rest of the leaves have shriveled up. What can I do?

It is a calathea, this one is calathea insignis, it needs warmth, moist, but must never be in direct sunlight as it lives at the ground level of the rainforests where the sky is nearly always cloudy and where the big trees protect it from direct sunlight.
