Work for Discounts

Silver Post Medal for All Time! 255 Posts

My husband recently retired from his job of almost 30 years. He discovered that he could work as little as 10 hours (one day) a week at a very popular large national chain hardware store and get the employee discount of 10%-30%, depending on the item purchased.

Being farmers and having some rental units, this is wonderful. He only earns around $100 a week before taxes, but after only 4 weeks, he has saved us in discounts over $900 in purchases for a home we are reroofing, air compressor, paint, carpet, and farming/fencing supplies.

I mentioned this to another retired friend of ours, and she informed me that is why she works 1 day a week at a nearby restaurant. She gets a 50% discount on meals for her and her family. As a result, they eat there 2-3 times a week.
