Silver Post Medal for All Time! 293 Posts I made this pattern for my husband. He has to work outside a lot and sometimes in blizzard conditions. He can't have scarf ends in the way of his power tools, so I thought a thick cowl would be better. He agreed!
It is somewhat snug fitting and therefore versatile. He likes to pull it up over his ears a lot to really shield him from the elements.
Best part, it's made with 3 strands of #4 Red Heart and a big ol' hook. That means you can whip this up in less than an hour! Have fun.
Total Time: Less than 1 hour
Yield: As many as you like
Supplies:
- 11.5 mm crochet hook
- around 300 yards #4 worsted weight yarn
- scissors
- embroidery needle for weaving in ends
Steps:
- With 3 strands of yarn and a 11.5mm hook, ch 30. Join with a slip stitch in the first ch to make a ring.
- Ch 3, 1 dc in each ch around till end. Join to top of first ch 3.
- Ch 3, 1 dc in each dc around till end. Join to top of first ch 3.
- Repeat last row 6 more times. Fasten off and weave in ends.
- This will stay up in the back to cover those cold ears!
- You may just want it down around your neck though.
- You'll be ready to go out in any weather!
- Enjoy.:)

Can someone please tell me what letter-size a 11.5 mm crochet hook is. Thank you.
PS, thank you for sharing this INCREDIBLE, but simply made, highly practical and simply beautiful pattern.

Great idea, thanks. My husband and son can use these when they deer hunt.

I wish my husband would wear this. It looks so warm. Especially now in Jan...we are having a winter storm? Love it.

It's obvious in your husband's eyes that he is well aware that he is a lucky man! Very nice work!

The cowl looks great, however there are no men in my life. The cowl really is a great idea. Watch out, though, now all his working buddies will want one. Good luck!
