Yarn Donations for Charity Projects?

We have a couple of resources for kids on the streets in Portland, Oregon: p:ear (spelled correctly), and Outside In. My sister was able to get help from both organizations and now volunteers. I would like to find donated yarn to be able to continue donating both, yarn for them to knit and crochet, and yarn for myself and friends to make finished projects to donate. Both organizations rely upon donations. Any suggestions?

Write the yarn companies. Ask on the facebook swap shops and on craigslists. Call churches, scouts and other civic groups. Also call the schools--they could perhaps make it a contest between classrooms to see who can collect the most.
