I have an older brother that I know very little about. All I know is that his first name is Alex, he's only a couple of years older than me (I'm 20, but I don't know his exact age).
I assume that your father is not giving you information, or is deceased. Was your brother adopted? If so, maybe you could find the adoption agency and they can contact him and tell him he has a sibling who wants to meet him.
Have you tried searching using your dads last name in places such a facebook, ancestory.com? Do you know what town he would have been born in? Some small towns publish birth announcements in the newspapers that you could probably find online
How do you know about this? Did he volunteer the info or did someone else spill the beans to you? It seems that your source was pretty incomplete and somewhat unwilling.
Seriously, if you want to find him, you're going to have to go rogue. Snoop thorugh your dad's stuff, if he has anything, like journals, old letters, etc. Anything related to the early -mid 90s.
HOund, bribe, and extort information out of any relative or friend of your dad's you might have. They need to at least know who the lady is, what her possible last name is, etc.
Keep on him about how important it is for you, etc. Do not let up.
Because without mroe info, you have really no choice save to hire a private investigator, whihc is probably expensive.

Go to familytreenow.com. If the family has not opted out you can find addresses and phone numbers and links to relatives.
Locating/finding people is usually a very difficult and very time consuming task but the more information you have, the easier it could be. it appears (from your question) that you have very little information so your task will be to first start finding out more about who you are looking for.
Where would this first family have lived? You really need to find out what city and maybe you could find info from schools in that area.
You will have to do a lot of research before anyone can help as the information you are showing will just not be enough - but you can still try.

Ancestry.com or FamilySearch.org provides online access to records that can help you to build a family tree and find out about relatives you didn't know that you had. Some online genealogy services even provide DNA testing to complement your findings in the online databases.
You can try and search the kansas city star online. If you don't mind posting the names, post them. I live very near Kansas City. Also check facebook, some people put notices on craigslist as well. Also google their names, check the various highschool yearbook sites and genealogy sites.

What information do you have from your father? Is your half sister through your father's first marriage? If so, where is the mother? You should try to gather all the information you can from either of these people or from any close or distant relative as you will probably need more real facts to be able to find your sister.
Also, I do not know how large a city Chapeltown is but it seems that would be a good place to start. How do you know she was fostered? Can you inquire in any government office that may have some (even older) information on the foster family? Do you know anything about the neighborhood they lived in? Maybe you could take the photograph you have and just start showing it around and asking questions.
Finding someone through the social media does sometimes bring results but it may take years and may never happen.
It will take a lot of your time and leg work to get information but this may be the only way to find your sister.
I would use ancestry.com or myheritage.com. You have a good amount of information. Include birth dates.
My auntie lives in Australia. I know her name, address, and where she works. She wrote my mum (her sister) a letter and my mum replied only for the letter to be sent back. I'm confused. You say you have her name, address and where she works. What are you still needing? If you have her name and address, can't you just write her a letter?
You could call her at work. If she wants to contact you later, you could use a computer program like Skype to chat with her face to face over the computer.

Questions: Has it been a long time since your mother and auntie have communicated before she received this letter? It seems this might be the case - if so, there must have been a reason your auntie wrote this letter? Did she indicate that she wanted to continue being in touch with your family? I am asking these questions because from what you are saying, your auntie does not wish to hear from your mother/family.
You say you have an address and where she works - was the letter your mother wrote sent to her home address - if so, what does it state on the returned letter as to why it was returned? Refused? No longer at this address? unknown? This would be the first item to consider.
You say you tried to call her at work but that it is a massive place and would cost a lot of money to continue the call - that is understandable.
It does appear that your auntie does not wish to keep in contact but if you wish to continue to pursue contact then you may just have to continue sending letters to the home address and hopefully she will accept one one day. If you have an address of where she works (or you can get it over the Internet since you have the name of the company) then you might want to send her a letter in care of the company/address and hopefully they will forward it to her department.
I would think carefully about before writing a letter to the company itself asking about her (unless this is an emergency) as it may not reflect well on her - just saying.
Your auntie has moved since writing your mum? Have you tried a simple Google search with her name and "Australia?" You might be surprised. Other than that? Someone else suggested e-mailing the company where she works and that makes perfect sense. Good luck!

My father's 2 younger sisters were given up for adoption at St. Anthony's orphanage, Jeppu, Mangalore, India, in the 1930s. Family stories indicate that the name of one of them is Catherine (aged 4 at the time of adoption) and the other was aged 2. They were probably adopted by a family in Goa. Apparently, in the 1970s, my grandmother, Florence Miranda, was on her death-bed, and wanted to see them.
One of them was located as a nurse in Mumbai, India, when my father, Felix Miranda, tried to trace them. My siblings and I have tried to find them in 1980s and 1990s. In 2004, I stayed at St. Anthony's orphanage for a month and tried to search records, however, the pre-independence (pre-1947) records are not traceable. I am a Jesuit priest and prayerfully continue to search for them.I have been trying to locate and meet my brother since I first found out about him. I'm only 16 so I obviously haven't got the money for a private investigator and people like that. I do have information about my brother, I know his name, how old he is, and have a rough idea of his birthday. I know his mum's first and last name and where he lived when he was born. Is he older or younger? If you know where he was born and roughly when, search the online (and microfishe if he is older, from the library) newspapers. Many areas publish babys births in the newspapers. That would confirm for you his exact date of birth, and possibly other relatives you could maybe find to help in your search (our paper puts the names of siblings and grandparents in the birth. announcements). If you can narrow down where he was at (state wise then city wise) check online to places like classmates.com.
I would try ancestry.com . I would start a tree with you, your parents and your brother and see if you got a hint . You can just list him as an unknown son under your dad or you can try possible family names or names or names you just think might be something that sounds right. Play with it . If you have info on his mother put her in there too. If he has been adopted, put any info you may have. Any hints you get on anyone may give you cities he may live in or other information. If you can get his name make sure you change unknown to his name. If you get a city, or even a county i would look at classmates.com for his name (hopefully he has same last name).

If they were to search their names, they would possibly find your blog.
Try a site called familytreenow. If you know the name, you can even find addresses and other relatives. Many people, including me, think it's an invasion of privacy and opted out, so I would go on sooner rather than later.
Another option, after checking with the adoption agencies and talking to your birth parents (who may have access to information not granted you) would be to check the Church of Latter Day Saints. And no, you don't have to be a member of their congregation. I don't know how much they can help, but their family records are amazing in depth as well as scope.
All of these are good answers but most people just feel overwhelmed when they start something like this. Since you are looking for brothers you may have some success because they may have listed their birth name somewhere (if they know it) but otherwise this may be a very long search.
Some people are now using DNA testing to help find relatives but the cost is around 100.00.

Contact the Mormon church, Susan. They call themselves Latter Day Saints or LDS and have compiled hundreds of thousands of geneologic records. One needn't belong to their organization to access the information.

Try ancestry.com You can see birth records from the country you live in. For an extra charge you can see birth records, as well as many other records from all over the world. It is a site for family tree making, but is great for finding people. There are restrictions on records for people who are still living, but not on individuals who are deceased. You get two weeks free, but are restricted to you own country. After that, the monthly charge for full access is around $30, a bit more for world access.
If you know the state and county where your father was born, the births and deaths are public record.
What can I do to find out if my sister's son is still alive? The last time he collected his disability pension from SASSA was at the end of June 2012. We have been trying to locate him through Missing Children, friends, and family. Now, after such a long time, we are not sure if he is dead or alive. We accept the fact that he could be dead, but obviously would like to get closure. Where on the web can I go to find out if he is still alive (or dead)?

How can I find out if a cousin is alive? He has not been seen in forty years. His mom said she lost contact while he was in prison 29 yrs ago. He was tried on federal charges in Virginia in 1990. He and another witness disappeared. He should be about 55 now. It was suggested he might be in witness protection. I would just like to know if he is alive. His younger brother says he has not been contacted in years.
