Adopting Older Cats
There are many older cats (over 6) at shelters looking for a good home. They are older and wiser, but often free. if you can give a cat a good home don't just look at the kittens!

Suggestion For Helping a Shy Dog
I adopted a shy dog on August 7, 2004. Unlike most shy dogs, her shyness happened, I am assuming, from being dumped. She began showing up at the church where I worked during the day and night. She slept at the church every night for almost six weeks.

About the Chinese Shar Pei
If you have never seen a Shar Pei before, the first impression might just as well be that of a kind, though independent, even arrogant clodhopper. Indeed, these dogs are often arrogant with strangers. And of course, this makes people think that Shar Pei is smarter than it looks. But under the mask of arrogance and indifference hides a mischievous soul of a natural-born clown.

Dusty Dawg - Rescued!
This is our "Dusty Dawg". We rescued him two years ago the afternoon before he was to be "put down". He was a sad and skinny dog. The day after we got him I took him to the vet for a normal check-up and discovered he had heart worms and the previous owner had never taken him to have any of his shots and he'd never been to a vet's before. After a week of very intensive and expensive treatment, Dusty is now a healthy, happy (and 30 pounds heavier - LOL) part of our family. During the day, his favorite spot to sleep is on my son's bed but at night, he sleeps with mommy and daddy.

More On Calming Dogs
I thought the tips about calming puppies were awesome! I, too, have worked with dogs a lot, not in fostering, but I have been a groomer and worked for 2 vets. We own two adult dogs who can have some separation anxiety problems when we are away from home on vacations and such.

Music for Calming a Puppy
Is your new puppy crying and keeping you up at night? Put on some lullaby or calming classical music and you and your puppy will have sweet dreams. I have fostered 70 puppies in the last two years and this works!

Comforting Puppies and Kittens
Want to comfort a puppy or kitten going through separation anxiety? Get one pair of mens socks, fill one with rice (not instant) and sew shut, then cover with other sock. Put in microwave for 3 minutes (until warm) and place in a "C" shape in puppy/kitten crate.
