Do you get the Christmas cards in the mail an don't know what to do with them? Go to http://anysoldier.com/ and get names of our service people who do not get much mail. Also cost is the same as sending mail here in the states. This is very rewarding also and just a small way of letting them know we have not forgotten them. By JODI

| Target and the Salvation Army
Hello! This is more of an opinion than a tip. I think it's terrible that Target stores will not let the Salvation Army bell ringers stand outside their stores this holiday season! They help many people. I for one will NOT be shopping at Target this season!

| Volunteering on Thanksgiving
If you really want to save money on Thanksgiving dinner this year, consider volunteering at your local soup kitchen. You will be helping those less fortunate, and you get to eat for free. I took my (then teen) children one year because I wanted them to experience it and it was the best Thanksgiving we've had to date!

| Make Sure Your Holiday Charity Contribution Counts
By Sherri Allen
As the holiday season approaches, many thoughts turn to helping those less fortunate. In fact, surveys have indicated that over 50 percent of all donations to charity are made between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's important, however, that you don't make charitable contributions indiscriminately. By following a few precautions, you can ensure your generosity provides maximum benefits for the people and organizations who need your help.

| Donating to Goodwill
Rather then making a pile of stuff to go to Goodwill that gets bigger and bigger on top of the dryer, I hang a heavy duty trash bag on a hook in the garage -- two steps farther than the laundry room -- and all donation stuff goes right into the bag. When its full, I toss it in the car (well, maybe not toss 'cause it gets pretty heavy) and take it to the charity thrift store. Really helps to round up clutter as I have a designated place for it without thinking about where to put it or getting a box to put it in.

Let your kids get involved by letting them help choose the foods that they will bring to the drive, it teaches compassion and helpfulness.

| Make Pet Blankets With Fleece Scraps
If you make the no sew fleece blankets, don't throw away the squares you cut out from the corners! I gather them up and sew them together to make pet blankets for the local shelter. They wash nicely and need not be perfect.

| Nursing Home Donations
I recently went to a yard sale and they had several jars of sample size body lotion, hand lotion & small bars of soap. I offered $1 for the whole lot and they accepted. I brought the items to a nursing home. It makes someone happy.
