Saving Water: Hand Dishwashing Tip
Here's a water saving idea I have used over the years. Rather than filling the sink to the top with water, put in only a couple inches of water, and then rinse your dishes with a small stream of hot water, over your sink of suds. That way your water stays hot, and you only have to replace a few inches at a time when your water gets dirty.

Solar Lights and Resources
By Staff

If you are considering buying pathway or ground lights, consider buying the solar lights instead. They use no electricity and there are no cords to get in your way. They can be placed anywhere in your yard because they don't need a power source. They recharge everyday, even on cloudy days and light up at night. They cost more initially but will save money and the environment in the long run. Also, you can take them with you on camping trips.

You can buy solar lights at: http://www.thriftyfun.com/realgoods.click
Real Goods and get lots of renewable energy information. Many of your favorite hardware or garden stores also carry them now. If they don't have them, request them. There are many on the market.

Lighting for less
Use compact fluorescent lights instead of incandescent bulbs whenever you can. Compact fluorescents are 3-4 times more efficient than incandescents and last 10 times as long. Any light left on for over one hour per day is a good candidate for replacement with a compact flourescent.

Conservation In the Kitchen
If you need to purchase a gas oven or range, look for one with an automatic (electronic) ignition system instead of pilot lights. You'll save an average of up to a third of your gas use -- 41 percent in the oven and 53 percent on the top burners.
