Hand Stripping Furniture
By Steve Hattrick
Directions for HAND Stripping. Work with plenty of ventilation, safety goggles or glases, and skin protection. Stay out of the direct sun and stay protected from wind or strong drafts if working outside.

Pickle Green or Passionate Puce? How to select the right color for your room!
By Pamela Cole Harris
Did the yellow paint in your room seem like a wonderful, sunny choice two years ago, but now reminds you of two day old eggs? Is the harvest orange seem trendy? The dusty plum seem elegant? And did that certain shade of green that seemed restful yesterday seem faintly reminiscent of moldy algae? Then it is time to find the right color for your room!

Drilling in the Ceiling
When drilling holes in the ceiling a lot of dust can fall down. If possible, ask a helper to hold the vacuum nozzle near the area you are drilling. If that is not possible you can also use a cheap shallow plastic bowl or the plastic lid from a coffee can to catch the dust. Just poke a hole in it and put it down over the drill bit and push it down past the drilling threads leaving enough clearance to drill the length hole you need.

Hydronic Cooling Systems
The majority of homes in NM have evaporative cooling (swamp coolers). Just wondering if anyone has any information on hydronic air conditioning units, since my swamp cooler will need replacing soon, and I would prefer the hydronic to typical refrigerated air conditioning units (water conservation and costs out west). I've already researched some hydronic heating systems, and like what I've found: no maintenance required; they can be hardwired such as typical baseboard types or can be portable; they have sealed lines inside that contain a solution that heats up, then the thermostat shuts off the unit and maintains the heat for a while after that. I like the ideas of no gas fumes or carbon monoxide concerns. Thanks. Sandy in NM

How to Increase the Value of your Home for Pennies
By Allison Dey
We couldn't afford to repaint our coral pink Tucson, AZ manufactured home. And the leased lot was landscaped with large rock we couldn't even walk across without twisting an ankle. We'd like to sell when the teens are grown, and these homes on leased lots do not appreciate in value, so we decided to make the best of it.

Electrical Outlets & Air-Flow
By Ted Joffs
I recently visited the home of a friend, and when we showed up he was cleaning up from what I thought was a "window-caulking" project. It turned out that he was not caulking windows, but that he had been experiencing severe drafts in the home since he bought it (9 months old) and had never been able to figure out where they were coming from. Then, while fixing a volume control, he began to realize that the drafts were coming in through the light switches, outlets, phone jacks, volume controls, and cable hookups. What has happened is not an uncommon experience; these drafts are typically caused one of three ways.
