To Ship or to Shop?
By Kelly Butterbaugh
I encountered a first today. While ordering gifts on-line I was a surprise during checkout. Here I was prompted with a notification that on top of my shipping charge I would be asked to pay a fuel surcharge. For a moment this perpetual on-line shopper wondered, "Is the shipping worth it?"

After Christmas Sales
By Tawra Kellam
Now that Christmas is almost here, I've been thinking about ways you can use after Christmas sales to help make next Christmas and occasions throughout the year financially easier.

Not Going Into Debt for a Nice Christmas
We have never made much money, so when shopping for the holidays, I check out thrift stores! I used to think that was a terrible thing to do, but you can find so many brand new things with the tags still on them...

Christmas Craft Supplies
Snatch up Christmas craft supplies at dollar stores as soon as they come out. If you wait til closer to the holiday, you might have to go to a craft store and pay full price.

Keep Receipts & Watch For Sale Prices
Have you noticed, it never fails, when you purchase an item it goes on sale at a cheaper price only days later? If you take your register receipt back to customer service, most times they will refund the difference. Check with the stores to find out what time frame that store allows, then make a note of it for future reference. Be as prompt as you can on requesting refunds. I have had as much as $11.00 refunded on a toy that went on sale! Target said they allow two weeks. By Syd

After Christmas Returns
Wait a week or so before making after-Christmas returns. Lines will be shorter, stores will be more re-stocked, and you will have had a chance to get an idea what you want to buy with the cash or gift-card you will get. By Linda

Bring a List to After Christmas Sales
Have a list of items that you really need before you shop sales. No point in having a lot of multiples of Christmas supplies that you won't use, no matter how cheap they are! They take up storage space. By Syd
